The Story
When thinking of a winter 'fantasy' or just about any fantasy for that matter, the first thing that came to mind was the childish and carefree nature of playing with toys and unwrapping new ones during Christmas. The joy it brings - tied together with the dreams we would all have as kids of our toys being 'alive' with a soul and stories of their own.
Going into this, I wanted to bring a story into the render more than anything - for the emotional connection.
The story here is of a young boy unwrapping Christmas presents at home. Meanwhile, his favourite toys celebrate as they watch over him with glee and eagerness, excited to meet all the new toys that will end up joining them.
Choosing Lego minifigures made the task easier than otherwise having to pose dolls or other toys that would end up looking freakish or lifeless. I didn't want to get lost in any sort of uncanny valley either by rendering any sort of 'photorealistic' character and instead decided to focus on a more cartoony and childish style, I'm sure many of you have played with Lego as children, so that level of relatedness makes this render much easier to connect with.
Hope you like it, Happy Holidays
