The Promise of a New Year
When the passing year is resting under the whitening snow of forgetfulness and the new year is about to prepare itself, the Yokai undergo a cleaning ritual in their hidden mountain spas.
When Yumiko is about to start her ritual in the mystical waters, a pink antler crow flies by, beckoning her with mocking glee. The young kitsune is so surprised she nearly forgets to greet the ancient bird with all due respect.
Not many have ever seen one of the rare and reclusive antler crows, and being mocked by one on the day the years interact with each other is a great honor and a promise of a bright future.
Smiling, Yumiko watches the bird fly away, disappearing in the snow-capped mountain range.
