constellation Draco (CLOSED)
160Nice idea with Draco constellation. Its name is Latin for dragon.
The Big dipper is one way of identifying Draco, as the last part of the serpent is parallel with the handle of the sauce pan. The constellation is visible year around in the northern hemisphere and is such considered a circumpolar constellation as it appears to rotate around the north star.
Draco is connected with two stories in Greek mythology. The constellation symbolized the dragon Ladon, who guarded the goddess Hera's golden apples in the garden of Hesperides. To complete one of his 12 labors, Heracles killed Ladon in order to steal the apples.
It was one of the 48 constellations listed by the 2nd century Greek astronomer Ptolemy, and remains one of the 88 modern constellations today.
Best wishes with your work.

Wed, Mar 06, 2024Thanks for the story. Since childhood, I have loved to look for constellations in the sky. For work, I used an inverted version of the constellation of the Dragon, but I tried to convey the location of the stars correctly as far as I could.

Wed, Mar 06, 2024Yes, indeed, it doesn't matter how you look at that shape forming the Dragon constellation since space is relative (doesn't have up or down),
it is your perception which is important, flip that picture in my comment and you just get the perfectly shaped dragon in your render : D
Quote: ''Space and time are relative (i.e., they depend on the motion of the observer who measures them) and light is more fundamental than either. This is the basis of Einstein's theory of special relativity ("special" refers to the restriction to uniform motion).''
If you go somewhere where there's so little light pollution, like the desert for stargazing, you'd be amazed with so many stars. It may be even harder to find constellations among so many others.

Fri, Mar 08, 2024It's so exciting. It's a pity that it's too bright in big cities to see bright stars in the sky at night

Fri, Mar 08, 2024I'm afraid so : ( We used to go to a quiet beachside where it wasn't largely populated, with our parents. After a few years they made a night club including bunch of villas that dimmed the stars. Vast overpopulation in rural areas are another addition to this problem. Some places are best left as they are I think.
Have a great weekend and thank you for your thoughts.
