Forum and Gallery Posts Strip Certain Keyboard Characters?

Hallo, ma'ams and sirs -- So far I've noticed that the backslash and quotation marks used for dialogue just vanish, swallowed up by the Nether. I couldn't find anything in the help forum about this anomaly so wanted to ask for clarification: is this intentional or accidental? I use the backslash for my silly little cheer emoticonnot a giant loss. But I might die a long, slow, tragic DETH if I can't use dialogue for story snippets with my gallery posts. I need to be prepared... (or beg the powers-that-be with lots of pretty pleases in order to turn them on?). Also, does RenderHub support BB code or mark down for formatting? Thank you in advance! Eve
