The Four Horsemen from the Book of Revelation in the Christian Bible., typically seen as a vision of harbingers of the Last Judgment, setting a divine end-time upon the world. They are personifications of Conquest (Zelos), War (Ares), Famine (Limos), and Death (Thánatos).
The main symbols of Zelos (the white horseman) are his bow and arrow, and crown, which are included in this design. Metallica has a song titled The Four Horsemen which mentioned that the first horseman was Time, so I used an elderly male warrior as the base of the character. Zeus came to my mind, with the arrow, crown and elderly facade, so lightning is added in.
Ares is the red horseman who symbolizes chaos and bloodbath. A bloodied barbarian, with two massive bladed polearms, charging out from the fire, was the concept.
Biological and chemical warfare is the theme behind the third horseman, Famine. In Metallicas song, Pestilence is the third horseman. So the concept is a bald and skinny alchemist, on a zombie horse, holding a chalice that is spewing corrosive fluid and toxic fumes. The bald and skinny image can be associated with the side-effects after long exposure to all the harmful substances.
The fourth horsemans design is straightforward, leaning towards typical pop-culture design, a demonic entity with a sickle.
Clothing-wise, the design is more towards the Eastern and Middle-Eastern style. I kept all the characters barefooted, as the horsemen never leave their horses; there is no need for footwear.

Now, saying this is amazing would be an understatement. Just figuring the lighting alone is enough to garner praise. The posing and framing of this piece is immaculate, I can tell you put a LOT of thought into this. Art like this makes me want to step up my game. Excellent work!

You are right, posing and framing took the longest as lights are flying everywhere. Whatever works in the individual pieces doesn't work in the joint one.
Pity there are others who feel that this is not art, not fit for the contest. Oh well...
