Lost Files issue
130I am hoping someone can help me please, I had all my Daz items everything on my external hard drive, I have just gone to my All items saved file and I got this message..F:/ All saved Poser stuff/ All poser items is not accesssible. The file or directory is corrupt and unreadable. It has been great all day I just turned my computer on and got that message...What has happened? and can I get it back? I have everything 14 years of saved items in that folder...I could cry right now

First advice do not save anything on this disk, it is important not to modify the FAT (File Allocation Table) for data recovery.
Has your external disk been making a different noise for a few days?
Do you have access to other directories (in reading) on your disk?

Sat, Feb 01Hello guy, all my folders are on an external hard drive all my folders are showing but the one folder I saved everything in...So I had the folder called "All Poser Items" and in that folder was hair, Genesis figures, Scenery everything all gone these were Items I bought and saved over the years. There was no noise on my external hard drive. At the moment I am trying Stellar Data Recovery, I might have to get someone who knows what they are doing to try and fix it for me I am useless on the technical side of the computer.

Sat, Feb 01For data recovery, the advice I can give is to try to copy the recovered files to another drive than the one that is "damaged" to keep the disk as much as possible in its current state to be able to use another technique or another tool in case of failure.
Maybe indeed see with a friend who knows how to solve this kind of problem or a professional.
maybe simply that only the Fat is damaged.
As there is only one damaged folder, the chances of recovery are maximum

I managed to recover all my files by using these instructions if anybody ever has the same problem.
1. Window key + S
2. Search for "cmd"
3. Choose the Run as Administrator option in the search results
4. Type "chkdsk f:" without quotations and hit enter. This can take a very long time
5. You'll get a report on the drive. If you see something about the folder in question, entering "chkdsk f: /f" will then attempt to fix it (and any other errors too). If you get this far, restart your computer to see if it has worked.

Wed, Feb 19If chkdsk managed to recover the files, it is because the Fat was damaged, this command has existed for a very long time, it dates back to MS-Dos! It is true that this should be the first reflex in the event of data loss following a power outage
I lost a lot of files a few months ago, and I cant blame the computerit was my fault.
Unfortunately, in my case, the files were not recoverable.
Im glad to hear that you were luckier than I was!
I strongly encourage you to set up a backup plan, such as synchronizing your important files to the cloud or something similar.
Anything can happen, so its better to be prepared for the worst (I learn it the hard way).

I appreciate your advice thank you

I make recently updates of my whole runtime on another harddrive. I had some similar experiences and since this I make backups.

Tue, Feb 18I do too, it was my external hard drive I lost my files from
I have them back now and will buy another external hard drive for more protection...I was told these can also burn out at anytime...I have a 8TB it is big enough... We had a power cut only for a few seconds but it took out folders so a little worrying I have to say. I am thinking cloud is the way forward for me as I have so much poser stuff it is crazy to be honest.

Wed, Feb 19Would an uninterrupted power supply have prevented this? I've been using them for years. They've kept my computer running long enough for me to shut it down properly in the event of a power loss. I ask this because you mentioned the power interruption.

Wed, Feb 19If there is a power outage while Windows or another operating system is writing to the FAT (File Allocation Table), yes there will be damaged files that will need to be recovered either with the chkdsk command or deleted file recovery software.
