VSS (Special sniper rifle) is a silent sniper rifle for special forces. GRAU index - 6P29. Developed in the 1980s at TsNIItochmash in Klimovsk under the leadership of PI Serdyukov and with the participation of VF Krasnikov. The name Vintorez remained in common use after it was used in design documentation.
