Afternoon in California (Hora Nona)
3D Render by gemreerIn Montana, summer is sweat and labor. In Sierra Leone, it's empty AK-47 shells hitting the dirt from the back of a pickup; in Ella, Sri Lanka, it's tea harvests accompanied by monsoon winds; and in Rome, it's the coins tossed into the Trevi Fountain as wishes...
But in California, summer—beyond all these lived experiences—is the very embodiment of that flawless, indulgent, and carefree illusion marketed to our minds.
With my first submission, Mid-Heaven of Montana (Medium Coeli), we were in a wild and dusty reality during that scorching midday when the sun was at its zenith. But the universal zodiac wheel of time keeps turning. Now, the sun's angle dips, the clock strikes 3:00 PM (Hora Nona), and our setting strips away the dramatic Montana barn, beaming us right into the heart of that commercial summer dream: California.
I present to you a deliberate, joyful, and flawless parody of my first piece.
Our once-solemn character now holds a tropical cocktail complete with a little umbrella. The Wild West map has given way to California, a Hawaiian lei hangs around our foal's neck, and an observant gecko greets us on our newly added 'RenderHub' logo plate. The heavy, volumetric dust of my first scene has been replaced by surfboards, parrots, smooth sand, and the gleaming, 'high-key' lighting of a glossy advertisement.
This second piece demonstrates how the exact same compositional backbone can instantly transform into a cheeky beach brochure merely by shifting the sun's angle, thematic objects, costumes, and finally, the color palette. The same composition, the same environment, and the same powerful V-Ray engine... But two entirely opposite universes.
...In this visual feast of time, we left the heavy reality of noon behind in Montana. Now, in California, it's time to sip on the sweet illusion of the afternoon.
Welcome to the California coast. Welcome to the idealized summer...
Oh, and before I forget... If reality were only what it seemed, the true color of the sea would be blue."
P.S. "Yes, that's right... Exactly as it crossed your mind. While this may not be a 'first' in the broadcast / entertainment industry, it is a humble 'first' in our 3D world. As of this moment, we have left Yellowstone behind, and this journey is not yet complete... Our next stop in the Zodiac is 'Hora Vespertina'. Thank you to everyone sharing this journey with me."

Lovely and very complete rework other your earlier scene. I have thought of the change of day many times but the transplanting of the content to another culture in another part of the world is a very interesting concept. Nice work.

I should just get a canvas and a new Marilyn, put hundreds of color variations in a display window, and sell them with a capitalist spirit! )
That terrible joke aside, you always manage to see the deeper layers, and that is a wonderful thing.
As for the real answer to your question: technically, yes, taking this to another planet or another time is child's play. However, with hundreds of thousands of other subjects on earth, continuing this as a fabrication would be a pathetic repetition, making it impossible to feel good and be satisfied. Let the Dutton household stay behind for now, and let my contest process continue with the other stops of the Zodiac.
