Our Beloved Summer
3D Render by chelkobywow, im finally through and ready to submit!.
when I first started this project for the RenderHub Summer Fun Contest, I was completely out of ideas. I couldn’t settle on anything, and every idea I had just felt... difficult.
so I took a step back for a while. then I asked myself again, “What does summer mean to you?
And what kept coming back to me was this soft, nostalgic moment of love.
this piece is inspired by a K-movie I watched some time ago, one I didn’t realize had left such a mark on me until now..
the challenge was figuring out how to portray that soft, romantic feeling of love within a purely family setting. That eventually grew into a detailed scene where every object had a story to tell, while pushing the color harmony as far as I could.
It was one of those periods where I somehow knew exactly how every object should look and feel in relation to everything around it, and, most importantly, what its color language should be... surprisingly, this part wasn’t difficult. the difficulty came in other areas. I think it was mainly because I became so in sync with the feeling I was trying to capture that the entire scene was already complete in my mind, even before / while I was still creating the pier.
the only question I kept asking myself was, “could I make it as beautiful as I see it in my head?well... im still not sure how to answer that.
One more thing I wanna say is that I had so much fun creating this project. by far, it’s been the most external work I’ve ever had this much fun with. It was an absolute blast. I thoroughly enjoyed the process, and was especially glad of realizing the usage of my skills in composition.
Working on it while listening to the OST tracks from the movie, channelling the inspiration, and that moment after the full-frame render where the Image completely synced... i had to play the track and stare at it for like 15 minutes straight. xd (I didn’t do that!)
For the first time, this project made me realize that 3D work, production 3D, professional work doesn’t always have to be clinical and rigid. It could stem from the heart?... you just take it how ever it feels...
DETAILS: The Story
I wanted to depict a family, at first, it was just going to be the Dad and Mom. But then the children snuck in, and I couldn’t resist.
Can you Spot their names?..
Can you also spot another detail that both the boy and the girl have in common?...
Okay, I won’t forget the dog. If I didn’t make a fluffy white dog, I’d be lying to myself. lol
DETAILS: The Uploads
the first upload is the Cinematic Still Poster.
the second upload is the MAIN image _ the one that really evokes that Our Beloved Summer feeling. It was edited with Bloom, Grain, Vignette, Color Grading, Curves, and many more.
the third image is the RAW & denoised render, showing the scene before the final post-processing.
And now, the fourth — the Action Slide. (there you have it... somehow the entire family got involved in the action, and I was like, Dammmn... xd)
Details: Production Details
Software & Tools: Blender (Geometry Nodes, Fluid Simulation, Hair Curves), Photoshop.
Assets & Textures: Textures from AmbientCG; 3D props from Fab & Sanctus Asset Library.
OST reference (esp Track 1, Track 5, Track 11):
