The scene I have depicted is of a time many will not know. A time when it was common place, to line up in a parking lot in your car, with family or friends, with popcorn and fountain soft drinks. You may have even snuck a friend or two in the trunk of the car to add to the excitement. You were there to watch the next “greatest movie" something that you knew no more about than a paper poster found somewhere in your small town. A time before the world was instantly connected, when you only knew about the world from that exchange student from somewhere out there. When you could still trust your eyes and ears so much that movies where still magic, not computer images and special effects. Go back to a time when monsters on a three story screen were truly something to be afraid of. Then picture that screen springing to life, the monster is coming out of the screen. It is so close you can feel his breath on your back. You have abandoned your car and are running. The panic is real and your only thought is to get as far away as possible, as fast as your legs will carry you. That's what could happen in the 60s and 70s, when you went to a drive-in late late movie, you just couldn't stay awake, the action got big and your dreams were filled with the sounds of monsters. A different time, a different place. The world will never see it again, but perhaps this story and image, can bring a little of it back to life for just a moment.
