Clíodhna heard Méabh’s voice in her head: "Touch the gate with your nose."
"Holy crap. Well... at least now we know how Taibhse got in."
When the girls reached the front door, it swung open to reveal a beautiful woman.
"Welcome, welcome! Hello there, baby girls, it’s so wonderful to see you again! And you must be Sinéad. I’m so happy to finally meet you. I’ve heard so much about you, it feels like I’ve known you all my life."
"Come on in, ladies," Méabh said with a big smile. “You must be exhausted after that long walk. I bet you could use some refreshments. And, will you look at that, I didn’t have to ask Taibhse twice..."
The girls stepped into the beautiful house and were guided to the dining room.
"OMG," Sinéad sighed. "This is incredible... it’s so beautiful."
She hesitated, then blurted, "Is Róisín here?"
"She is," Méabh replied. "She’s down by the pond with one of her friends. I didn’t tell her you were coming; I wanted it to be a surprise. God knows, she could use a nice one."
“How is she?" Sinéad asked, her voice trembling.
Méabh paused, then smiled. "She’s marvellous... and even better since yesterday morning. She’s finally all better. I think I got lucky and nailed the bastard of a vampire who kidnapped her and tried to turn her."
"Oh! And those three smouldering fence posts, you girls were so fascinated by when you arrived? They were actually three very dodgy individuals who tried to climb the fence on Friday night. My owl woke me, and I turned them into fence posts until I could figure out the what, why, where, and when of it all."
She shrugged lightly.
"As it happened, when the sun came up on Saturday morning, "poof" up they went in flames. Turns out they were vampires, here to snatch our girl again no doubt."
"They’ll be nothing but ashes in a few days, never to be seen again. And I’m sure one of them was the big wig around here. They say if you get the one who bit someone, that person makes a full recovery. And as I said, I must have got lucky."
Sinéad was beside herself with joy. Clíodhna and Éabha burst into tears at the news.
"So, Leo was right all along, you do turn people into fence posts," Clíodhna said.
"Well, I don’t go around doing it all the time," Méabh replied. "And as I said, I only do it while I figure out what to do with them."
"When can I see her?" Sinéad asked.
“Let’s have some morning tea first, and then you can go down to the pond and surprise her. Don’t sneak up on her though, she might toss you headfirst into the water. She’s very jumpy at the moment, as you can imagine, and I’ve been teaching her how to defend herself."
Méabh softened.
"Oh, and she’s sure to break down when she sees you. She has no idea what you’ve had to do to find her, or that you were even looking for her, the poor babe. But you know what? She's worth it."
She turned to Clíodhna.
"Now then, what have you been up to, miss Clíodhna? I saw you had a dream over in Killeigh, is that place still a dump? Did you get it sorted, or do you have to go back?
“Yes, I do," Clíodhna replied. "I have to rescue the clockmaker, Master Óisín. I left him a promise."
"That’s my girl," Méabh said proudly. "Always honour your word and you’ll never go wrong."
"And that dress you had on in your dream, outrageous!" Méabh added with a wink toward Sinéad.
"Not unlike the one you’re wearing right now," Clíodhna shot back. "And you should see the one I have for Mom’s birthday party. I hope you’re coming?"
"Wouldn’t miss it for the world," Méabh chuckled. "Who knows, I might even get to dance with Leo."
Clíodhna cracked up.
"Oh, yuck," Méabh groaned. "He’s such an eejit!"
"Oh, and how is your music coming along young Éabha?"
"Ah..., still coming thank you, replied Éabha!"
"Alright, ladies, why don’t we let Sinéad go find her friend, and you two lovelies can help me wash up. Then we’ll get started on lunch."
"We always have a big fancy Sunday lunch out on the veranda. And, maybe Éabha can make some of her wonderful strawberry daiquiris! It’s going to be a huge celebration today, and I want it to be grand!"
