CQ-DX! CQ-DX Papa Alpha 19Golf Mic 7O Bravo calling from the Netherlands!
Here I have set up my RadioShack as it looked back in the days when I was active as a radio amateur.
My Story:
I began to get interested at a young age (12) and soon became addicted to the handling of radios and transmitting equipment. My first contact with a foreign country was Italy and Turkey at fairly low power (Channel 14/4watt AM) with a Boomerang antenna. The weather conditions were extremely convenient and therefore it was easy to receive radio signals. Later, I bought more and heavier equipment to reach even further but also extensive different bands, modulations and frequencies. I also participated in packet radio, which I contacted with the MIR space station. Also, I was a fanatic short wave listener and retrieved via special modems weather maps, SSTV and encrypted messages from airplanes. Those were unforgettable times!!

Nice render GMA, and oh, I can actually recognize a few of those electronics. For me it was taking a vacation, getting out of the Lower East Side a couple days out to the end of long island, Montauk Point. It was off season, chilly, with a booming sea... perfection. Anyway, I also had a slender boomboxie-ish radio that had short wave. So, turned it on long after dark and heard my first numbers stations. We had no internet back then, just dialer phones so I had no way to ask wtf is this?!?! I was hooked and years later put it together. I have the box set of CDs too.

Fri, Apr 14, 2023I still have a great love for all kinds of radios but I stopped this hobby years ago because this hobby has been a dying breed since the internet existed. Sometimes I long to go back to the time of back to basic..
