Mercedes Benz Cabriolet
3D Render by MjrkThis beautiful model of a Mercedes-Benz Cabriolet was made by JoRCS/Sketchfab.
Nothing appears when you try to import the FBX-file in DAZ-Studio, so one has to separate the different materials and objects (doors, wheels etc.), export it as OBJ and reassemble it again in DAZ-Studio or Poser. But it's worth the effort.
So, if you like vintage cars and you have a program that can open FBX, go and get it for 5$ !
(No, I don't get anything for this promotion. I just like the design of those old cars)
Thanks for looking!
P.S. I have added the numberplate and altered the position of the hinges. Otherwise the doors won't open properly. There a a lot of pictures of this car on the net but i can't find out how the hinges would work if they are positioned as the are in the original model. If anyone has an idea, I would be happy to read it.

I have not seen where the hinges are originally, but perhaps they were like this?

Thu, Oct 10, 2024I must admit, I don't know much about cars. I have just taken the model and rebuilt it in DAZ-Studio.
I have seen the doors open like this on some photos but with the parts of the the model as they were,
the doors wouldn't open properly. Perhaps the model was built as a closed car?

Fri, Oct 11, 2024I'm a serious "Gearhead", what I can say is that rear hinged doors were very popular in the 1930's, partly because they made it easier to get your legs out of the car - especially since the driver had a large diameter steering wheel in front of him (no power steering). The inherent issue being that if the door came open at speed, the "wind" would throw the door open violently - often damaging the door, occasionally ejecting the person next to the door. I would point out the large and extensive latching mechanism on the doors of this expensive car (Mercedes?). Rear hinged doors did not entirely disappear until at least the 1970's, but they were not very common after the 1940's. I hope this was helpful - you seem very detail oriented. I admire your work - that was an impressive job importing it into DAZ-Studio. Hinge angles and alignment can be truly challenging.

Fri, Oct 11, 2024Thanks for the info. I have tried it the other way around, but the movement of the doors just didn't look right.
As for real cars - the only "repairs" I could make on my own cars were the replacements of the spark-plugs.
And the tires now an then

Well, your art is very impressive. Now days, going much beyond the spark plugs without a computer link is almost a non-starter. My mechanical career is over these days... but I'm hoping that perhaps that before too long, I can produce some art that looks something like what I envision in my head. Thanks for the conversation, it was enjoyable.

Tue, Aug 12Thanks you! But the modeler was JoRCS, I have only made it as a model I can use in DAZ-Studio.
