For the moment I read a fantasy novel from David Gemmel, and this scene come in my mind.

Again, my applause.
Lots of stuff to look at (aside from the women), makes you wonder what's inside the old tug. The animals are great to.
What's in front of the lion? A shell?

Just a thought...
Seems to me the women are a bit under dressed for this journey?
Carrying a sword all day would really wear you out.
Maybe set them up a little more at ease?
Put the swords in scabbards? Maybe still on the horses?
Robes would work better for this travel. Provide better protection from the elements and potential long range ambush.
Maybe billowing in the harsh, hot winds?
Saddle sore wear would really be a bitch here too. [chuckles]
Perhaps a short, plump additional traveler? Dependent upon the "warriors" for protection?
I can see all kinds of additional stories in my minds eye coming from this.
