He trusts her, letting her 'command' his fancy sail boat. True, the expensive craft
is highly automated. Still, the few times the 11-year old sea-gal did stupid things,
her uncle merely grew serious, chanting facts and instructions as he helped prevent
any disasters. Her parents would have burst blood vessels, banning her from touching
