I'm posting this incomplete image because I'd like some help with it. Here's the issue, using volumetric fog I wanted the figures to be defined, but shrouded in the fog. However no matter how much lighting I put on it, the luminosity of the fog just whites out the image. The third image took nearly 30 hours to render and you can still see fireflies. I'm aware the biggest cause of fireflies is low lighting, but as explained adding lighting removes any definition. The second image, looks better bevcause I moved the fog back beyond the primary figure, that's not what I really wanted. Any hints and tips will be appreciated.

I have the same issue because you have to have the camera inside the fog cube it is almost impossible to find the edge.
I set the fog to minimum and then used a ghost light to highlight the mist. Kindred do a nice set but it is heavy work on top of the water and high quality scenery. https://www.daz3d.com/iray-light-volume-kit
The room dust looks great for patchy fog.

Best solution is use light to pick out where you want mist to show or use a separate mist prop for the close ups.

Finally I find SSIM helps but expect the long renders with multiple things from kindred-arts I love em but my rig hates them smile
