3D Render by MKDAWUSSThis isn't much of an image, I'll admit - it's just a quickie of "I'm back!"
About a month back my PC crashed and I lost quite a bit of what was on it. One drive died and another is apparently about to. My Daz Render Library was on the one that died, meaning I have no access to it anymore. My content library is on the one that's about to, so I was able to salvage that at least (About 500 GBs and about 3 hours of waiting for everything to migrate), saving me numerous days (at the very minimum) of manually trying to redownload the entire CL.
The PC was due for upgrades, but I was aiming for some time next year to do that - this certainly changed a few things up! This was sudden and nothing was giving any indications of failure. The HDs were going out, the MoBo was now screwy and who knows what else...
I wound up losing a number of video game mods, some memes, some videos, and other assorted content. Some of that I'm probably never getting back. Some would take a whole lot of searching to retrieve, and along with luck and accidents.
DAZ-wise I think I'm back to where I was before all this (minus the render library, which, at this point allows me to organize that a bit better internally as it was a bit of a mess before).
PC-wise... well, it's operational but I still need to get a few more things for it.

Hi - and welcome back
I was wondering where you might be ...
I'm really sorry for you about the hard disks. I hope you were able to - somehow - deal with it ... I would be ripe for the asylum after something like that.
P.S.: I've just pinned a note to my forehead: FINALLY MAKE BACKUPS!!!

Tue, Sep 24, 2024I had a similar problem a few years back, but that came with a bit of a heads-up allowing me to grab what I could. And yeah, I was severely irritated over the idea of potentially losing everything and choosing whether to try to start over or move on. I'm still somewhat facing that decision TBH.
As for backups, yeah that's a good idea, although some things are a bit more difficult to backup than others. I was starting to run out of disk space on both the old drives. Like I mentioned, my DAZ CL is around half a TB, and I'm guessing there are people whose CLs dwarf mine - something like that you're not going to have too easy a time stuffing an entire CL into a backup storage space. Other things get modified and updated way too often for backups to be much of an effective thing.
The break was nice at first, but eventually you get to the point where you need to get back to things.

Hello welcome.
How sorry I am about your PC.
It has happened to me and it is not pleasant at all.
Cheer up and start again. I'm glad for your return to the renders

Thu, Sep 26, 2024Thanks. I'm slowly getting back into things again as I get reoriented and reorganized.
Hello,
It's always a shame when you have to deal with such a technical failure.
But if you say your CL is 500 GB, then I have a tip for you: transfer the CL to a 500 GB SD card, which is available as drive D:. The DAZ Studio software should be installed under Programs on drive C:. It is important that all data directories are on drive D (SD card). If the storage space on the SD card is running out, you can move libraries that are not or are rarely used to another flash drive, regardless of the drive letter. You can then integrate the outsourced libraries into Daz Studio as new runtimes at any time. You can then use a large 2-4 TB HDD for backups.
That's how I do it at the moment and I can use one and the same CL on different computers. I just slide the SD card into the other computer and plug in a USB hub with the required flash drives. The most important thing is to keep track of where and what is stored. I wouldn't recommend using an HDD for work because the loading times are significantly longer and the probability of failure is also high. Does your computer have the system drive on an HDD or SSD drive?
If you have an SSD drive, you can reserve 64GB of space on the SSD for additional RAM without having to install it as RAM. So I have reserved 64 GB on a 512 GB SSD and use this in addition to the built-in 8 GB of RAM.
If you would like to do something in this direction, please contact me. I'll then tell you where you have to adjust something. Good succeed.

I know it's not comforting, but I'll give you a prize to see if you get better. This picture is very cute.
