Renascentia - Dark Metal
3D Render by RedSpartanThe bar, it turned out, was quite substantial. Over a metre in length and with some heft to it she swung it around with both hands and caught the mech squarely in the side of its head unit as it whirled about to meet her. The machine reared back, as if it were momentarily stunned, its supporting arm sliding it away from her along the track in the ceiling, but only so far as it stopped unexpectedly, snagged by what appeared to be a twist in the guiding rail. As it struggled for a moment she used its hesitation to leap forward and up in an arc, still carrying her initial momentum, and landed squarely on the drone’s back quarters. One of its rear appendages snapped as she came down, but not before its tip gave her a hard electric shock. She ground her teeth and ignored the pain as she felt her added weight on the thing start to tear it loose from the support appendage.
Metal groaned, sparks flew as the main body of the mech tore loose from the arm and it crashed down onto the flooded floor. As it tumbled she pushed down on its torso and slid to one side in a roll that brought her back to her feet, the metal rod still clutched in her hands. The holo blinked out but it was clearly still active, the red eye glowing fiercely, reflected in the murky water, the remaining appendages flailing about, looking for flesh to make contact with and inflict more pain. For a second she watched it carefully, staying beyond its reach, calculating her next move. Then, without further hesitation she moved forward, planting her left foot on the machines rear arm and pinning it to the floor. As it tried to rise up she drove the metal rod with all the force she could muster into the carapace above the eye, cutting through the protective metal casing with surprising ease and into the workings of its brain. The metal bar continued its unrepentant journey through the drones head and out the other side in a shower of sparks and burning ozone as its inner workings fried.
And then suddenly it was over, the lifeless metal body dropping onto the floor in a splash of filthy water, the last remnants of electrical energy sizzling as the sparks found the liquid. The LED’s and glowing eye went dark and all was suddenly still.
She breathed steadily, still holding onto the metal rod with both hands, calming her heart rate and letting herself carefully return to a normal state from the rush of adrenalin that had momentarily flooded her body. Her mind cleared and she caught herself smiling.
Hell, she’d hardly broken a sweat. She still didn’t know how long she’d been in that damned tank, but her instincts were still sharp, the muscle memories of her years of training and experience in battle had returned instinctively, in an instant. She had been a soldier, more, a special operative who could go far beyond the skillset of a mere infantry grunt. This she knew with certainty. She was in this decrepit place for a reason, following orders, but what the specifics were still eluded her. But still, she had hope. Things were returning, albeit frustratingly slowly, but they were coming back to her and this gave her encouragement. She glanced over at the corpse laying against the wall and she imagined for a second that it smiled at her appreciatively. Well done it seemed to say…She gave it a half grin.
‘Now, if I could just remember my fucking name.’ she whispered.
To be continued…

And the story continues. I'm quite pleased with this project, an ongoing story to match the images. I've attempted it before but never got very far. Hopefully I wont get bored and abandon this one. As I mentioned before I've got quite a few pictures in the bag already, so it'll carry on for while yet regardless, but I have decided to re-visit one or two of those completed works and have another crack at them as in retrospect I don't feel they're up to par with some of the others I've done. There's a few more in this initial section (Chapter 1 if you like), then the story flits about in time a wee bit. I must sit down and plan this story out properly, but it started out as a couple of one offs and suddenly turned into a monster. I've got a world I'm building in my head but I keep getting new ideas that keep drifting off into new realms and directions that if I'm not careful will disrupt the entire narrative. But hey-ho, it's only a hobby and it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things...
Thanks for looking and all the favs, much appreciated.
