The wedding was held in the clearing where they had first met.
Elara wore a gown of ivory lace, her veil soft as breath. As she walked down the aisle, the breeze stirred the petals around her feet.
Tomas waited at the altar, smiling—but not with joy.

That night, there was no feast.

They found her the next morning at the edge of the woods, her veil still covering her face, dress soaked in earth and blood.
The village mourned what they believed was a tragedy of the heart.
“She must have wandered, heartbroken,they said. “Perhaps she thought he left her.
But the truth came weeks later, when a child picking wildflowers found Tomas's knife near the body,
wrapped in cloth and tucked beneath a rotting log. Blood still stained the hilt.
