I love old paintings, and Vermeer (Dutch painter) always worked so good with details and lights, so i tried to get that sort of result with this render. I hope you like it.

Add more darker shadows to the scene, or do the trick you mentioned, would make it more "pop", i agree with you. But i was afraid it would make the scene to dark, For some reason it seems some of my renders look very dark on some screens (Phone or computers) and some look like it suppose to do....So i wanted to play safe, and didn't put the shadows to dark...but i know what you mean 


Thank you so much for the great words, and tips about the scene, will surely use it next time when i try to make another sort of scene like Rembrand or Vermeer

(Offcourse no one can compeed with these old master, but you know what i mean   )

Indeed the candle is fantastic.  Like your rendera lot. Have you considered making the image darker overall and then painting back in the light by dabbing with a soft round brush? This would make it even more "Rembtandt-esque"
