Mya stared after her, not sure what to think. She shook her head and followed.

‘The training was intense,’ she continued, sloshing through the flowing water that had by now receded to the depth of her ankles. ‘I already knew how to kill, to think on my feet, work alone and isolated from aid and resources. They honed those skills and gave me new ones. Confederation society was still somewhat of a mystery to us, even with intelligence agents in place. Getting information out was still difficult and incredibly risky. I would have to learn their ways quickly once I was inserted, adapt to the harsher realities of their existence, blend in, yet remain in the shadows. They taught me how to get close to my targets, use assets I’d never considered I had to to lure my prey into a position where they would be vulnerable. Then they taught me how to kill in very inventive ways.’

‘Ha!’ Shaana suddenly exclaimed, ‘now that sounds like something I would be interested in.’

‘Yes, well…’ Mya replied. ‘Anyway,’ she continued, collecting her thoughts, ‘Tali and I became close during all of this. There had been a pretty instant attraction at that first meeting, and this grew over time. Our friendship quickly began to blossom into something more profound.’
