This reflects the world I come from, a culture where strength, wealth, and boldness are what determine how far you can go. In my world, beauty isn't something empty; it's armor. It's survival of the fittest.
This is my fourth attempt at entering this contest, and making it to the top three has always been a dream of mine. I poured days and sleepless nights into this shaping the concept, refining every detail, and giving it everything I have. This piece isn't just design; it's my dedication, my perseverance, and my legacy.

I fused African heritage with high-fashion Gothic inspiration. The figure wears a deep crimson ensemble with ruffled African print layered on top. This is my way of symbolizing both resilience and cultural pride. The wide-brimmed feathered hat sits on top of a durag, a deliberate choice to assert Black identity and modern street style in a regal context. The garments themselves flow like ceremonial robes, blurring the line between a king's presence and a powerful performance.
The purple gem on her chest represents immortality and an eternal presence, a motif that transcends death and speaks to the enduring power of culture itself. The bronze amulet on her left chest is inscribed with Dwennimmen, the Adinkra symbol for Ram's Horns. It's a reminder that true leadership requires both humility and strength.
But the most striking element is the staff, inspired by the Golden Stool of the Ashanti (Sika Dwa Kofi). The Golden Stool is more than a throne; its a sacred embodiment of a people's authority, command, and eternal survival. By reimagining it as a staff, I transformed divine kingship into a portable force of personal and cultural power. This shows that survival isnt about passively enduring it's about actively commanding your destiny.
The essence of the look is sophisticated and high-class, but with a roguish undertone that resists being put in a box. Its both elegant and defiant, refined and rebellious a presence you simply cannot ignore.
This piece is more than just a costume; its a visual statement. My goal is to place African symbols and materials on the global fashion stage, all while engaging with the grandeur, mystery, and timelessness of Gothic aesthetics. Its a portrait of power that honors the past while daring to shape the future.
