Renaissance Princess Isabel
3D Render by gabrielgardimanThis is a dress based on a real one which can be seen only in a painting. I believe the original one is nowhere to be found today. Anyways, I thought it would be interesting to create the fashion scene in the past, in the early Renaissance to be more specific. The reason for that is because the outfits from that time are so intricate and beautiful. For the rest of the scene, I used the default template first, but it looked to boring and unfitting for that king of piece, so I modeled a palace to serve as the setting. The only thing I was still unsure about was the crowd around the woman. The default 'cardboard cut-out' people was not doing for me, so I decided to create an entire orchestra around the model as if they were all playing a waltz for her. The orchestra is dressed in deep-blue velvet which was purposely chosen in order to balance with the vivid red of the velvet dress and thus make both colors stand out.
The scene was rendered with 5 different light passes that were later comped. Key light, fill light, back light, top light and front light.
The dresses were all made in Marvellous Designer. The face was modelled in blender. Hair grooming made in Maya's Xgen (her complex hair has more than 8 collections of grooming; took a while to figure out how to do those braids). Everything was textured in substance painter and rendered with the Redshift Engine.
The dress uses 3 UDIMs for high res textures.
I used ZERO ai tools to do this. ZERO!

Little secret: the flower pattern on the red velvet was done using a simple normal map like this

First of all, I want to note the technical side of your work, it is well done! But this is a clothing design contest! You should have come up with your own idea and brought it to life. Instead, you simply copied a costume from a painting. I don't want to offend you, but it's sad. You have good potential, but even a good copy will never become an original. Anyway, wish you good luck.
