Persephone Queen and Captive of the Underworld
3D Render by 3113pixelsPersephone's story is tragic, but her wardrobe is not.
This gown tells her story like a tapestry, starting with her corn crown, flower filled head dress, and at her neckline with corn, poppies, clouds and lightening, in honour of her parents, Demeter and Zeus, and her time spent above ground in the summer.
The "cave" at the nape of her neck leads down to Charon, the ferryman, his payment; an obol, the River Styx, and, ultimately, the pomegranate seeds that seal her fate in the Underworld for the rest of the year.
On her sides a 3 headed snake represents Cerberus protecting the gates on her stomach, leading down to the underworld itself, held by the hands of the damned. The underworld is represented by Hades' bident, surrounded by clover, asphodel flowers, daffodils and, ultimately, ending with Hades himself.
