Allie Katzenberg learned at a young age that being born into an affluent family can be a heavy burden. When she was twelve, Allie was kidnapped and held for ransom. She spent five terrified days handcuffed and locked in a cage in a cold, dark basement until her kidnappers issued their demands and her parents paid the five million dollars.

Allie was released physically unharmed, but her trauma was deep and enduring. The eventual arrest and conviction of her abductors offered her no solace or relief. In the days and weeks following her ordeal, Allie vowed to herself that she would never be so helpless or powerless ever again. Further, she would find a way to protect others from harm.

Enter Warren Halsey.

The day after Allie was released, her parents hired Halsey to be her bodyguard. The Katzenbergs knew about his past in the US Army Special Forces. What they didn't know about was the seven years Halsey spent fighting crime as the hero known as Nightwatch.

But Halsey confided in the young girl to whom he'd pledged his life to protect.

In turn, Allie told her protector of the vow she'd made to herself. Then, she asked Halsey if he would train her to protect herself and others. It didn't take much to convince him.

For the next six years, the pair trained in secret. Halsey imparted to her everything he'd learned as a Green Beret and as a costumed hero. Through his tutelage, Allie honed her body and mind.

Halsey thought he was empowering a young girl whom he'd come to care about as if she were his own daughter.

He had no idea until it was too late that he was training the new costumed hero, Alley Katt.
