While working on a photorealistic Genesis 8 Female portrait in DAZ Studio, I ran into a familiar issue.

Most makeup presets replace the skin textures.

The moment you apply them, the character loses its micro-detail - pores disappear, lighting changes, and the realism drops.

Instead of building another preset pack, I experimented with a different idea.

What if makeup behaved like a layer inside the Iray PBR skin shader?

That idea eventually became the DD Makeup Editor.

The system allows artists to adjust lipstick, blush, eyeliner, and foundation directly inside the shader without replacing the original textures.

This means the character keeps its photorealistic skin detail while still allowing full creative control over the final look.

The render above uses the same Genesis 8 Female skin.

Only the makeup layers have changed.

Instead of searching for another preset that “fits the skin,the artist shapes the makeup directly.
