The Wages of Fear (1953)
3D Render by bisonraviThe Wages of Fear (French: Le Salaire de la peur) is a 1953 thriller film directed, co-written, and co-produced by Henri-Georges Clouzot, and starring Yves Montand, Charles Vanel, Peter van Eyck and Véra Clouzot.
The film centres on a group of four down-on-their-luck European men who are hired by an American oil company to drive two trucks, loaded with nitroglycerin needed to extinguish an oil well fire, over mountain dirt roads. It is adapted from a 1950 French novel by Georges Arnaud.
I know : the main character looks more to Marlon Brando than Yves Montand and the truck is a russian one, not an american!

Excellent image! And I had no idea the 1977 film "Sorcerer" was a remake of this! Now I have to watch this original!

I should see the film "Sorcerer" (I have heard about it but never got the chance to watch it). According to William Friedkin (the producer and director), "Sorcerer" is not really a remake and is closer to the original plot of the Arnaud's book.
There are at least two others movies using the plot of the novel: Violent Road (1960), and another French adaptation for Netflix on 2024 (also titled "The Wages of Fear"), both of them can be forgotten!
The Clouzot's version of 1953 is definitely one of my favorite movies

Bonne inspiration. Le salaire de la peur, Excellent film, il n'a presque pas vieillis. Le remarque (80 et quelque) est pas mal non plus, mais tout le monde semble l'avoir oublié.

Thu, Mar 26Hormis sur le plan technique (les véhicules notamment) où le film peut être daté, il n'a pas pris une ride sur le plan du scénario, du jeu des acteurs, des rapports humains qu'il souligne. Et la réalisation de Clouzot est exceptionnelle.
