Underground Laboratory for the DUNE Particle Detector
3D Render by Robin HoodThis 3D image is based on the real installation of the DUNE (Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment), a massive particle detector located deep underground at the Sanford Underground Research Center in South Dakota, USA.
I took the underground laboratory itself as a conceptual framework, but then redesigned it according to my own artistic vision. While a real DUNE detector is filled with sensitive electronics and cryostats, I focused on creating a stylized/atmospheric/sci‑fi environment that reflects the atmosphere of deep‑earth science.
What I have saved from the real DUNE laboratory:
A sense of scale–miles of cliffs overhead, a cathedral-like cave.
The result is not a photorealistic replica, but a personal 3D concept dedicated to one of the most ambitious experiments in particle physics on Earth.
Software used: Blender
Rendering engine: Cycles
Thanks for watching!
