Day Off
3D Render by iliazaharievA day off is a very human thing. Rest, water, flowers - none of it belongs to a robot. "Day Off" plays with that contradiction, placing a machine in a moment so effortlessly feminine and sensual that it somehow feels completely natural. Apparently, even robots need a break sometimes.
The main stages of the process are broken down in the comments.

I started by blocking out the base body mesh using reference sheets for the front, side, and back views to get the proportions right in Blender. Nothing fancy at this stage - just the foundation to build the robot on top of.

After the base body was done, I moved on to modeling the remaining parts separately - the hands, feet, and head. Each piece was built using references to keep the proportions and anatomy consistent throughout.

Once all the separate parts were done, I combined everything together - the head, hands, and feet were all merged into the base body mesh.

With the full model assembled, I started refining the details - adding more definition to the face features, shaping the body further including the breast and buttocks, and working on the smaller details like nails. This is the stage where the model really starts to come to life.

This is where the model starts actually looking like a robot. I added panel lines and creases across the body to suggest separate metal components and mechanical joints - giving the feel of a machine built from individual parts while still keeping the feminine shape underneath.

Next was rigging - adding a full skeleton to the model so it can be posed. With 904 bones, this is what allows the character to move and be placed into the final pose you see in the render.

Next was materials. I went for a chrome finish to give the robot that retrofuturism feel - clean, metallic, and sleek. To keep the feminine touch, I added red to the small details like the lips and nails, which gives just enough contrast against the chrome to feel intentional and adds a bit of that sexy edge.

With the character done, I moved on to building the scene. This is the blockout stage - just simple shapes to establish the space, the arch, and the overall layout. You can also see the shower dividers here, which I later removed since they made the space feel too closed off and the character felt trapped inside.

Next was posing the character inside the scene. The pose was important - I wanted to show off the body in a way that emphasizes the feminine shape, with the head tilted back under the shower to add to that feeling.

This is where the scene started coming together - adding the ivy, flowers, and plant pots to bring the environment to life. You can also see the beginning of the lighting setup on the right, which plays a big role in the final mood of the render.

With the scene fully assembled, I moved on to setting up all the materials and fine-tuning them in material preview mode. You can also see the compositor nodes starting to take shape at the bottom - this is where the post-processing and color work begins to come together.

Before the final 4K render, here is a preview of how the scene looks in Blender's render preview mode - a good way to check the lighting, materials, and overall composition before committing to the full render.

The final step was post-processing in Photoshop, where I added the finishing touches - the water stream from the showerhead, mist rising from where the water hits the floor, additional sun rays, and overall color corrections to bring the whole mood together.

And here is the final result. Every step of the process - from the first polygon of the base mesh all the way to the last color correction - came together into this one piece called Day Off.

Wait... I can make sun rays in Photoshop? Looks like I know what I'm hunting up on YT this week! I really like your use of color. Good luck with the contest, too!

Tue, Jun 09Haha thanks! You're on the right track with Photoshop, but it’s actually just a sun ray image texture I layered on top! Super easy shortcut. Appreciate the compliments on the colors and the contest support!
