Capt. Cathy - Among the Ruins of the Keepers 1
3D Render by Edheldil3DOne year after the fall of Lord Nebulor...
The wounds of the past have begun to heal. Having finally found her father, Joy wishes to learn more about her origins. Together with Capt. Cathy, Doro Android, and Nebulor himself, she travels to the ruined world of the Keepers—a journey that will uncover secrets long buried beneath the dust of history.
Among the Ruins of the Keepers
The air within the vast halls of the sunken temple tasted of dust and cold stone. Yet the place was not entirely dark. Far above, sections of the massive ceiling had collapsed long ago. Through wide cracks and shattered openings, the planet's harsh sunlight streamed down, forming bright columns of dancing dust between the ruins.
Broken pillars, fallen walls, and overgrown reliefs lay scattered everywhere, remnants of what had once been the proud heart of the Keepers.
"There’s nothing here but rubble, Father," Joy said quietly.
Her voice echoed through the enormous chamber. Something about this place made her shiver. A lingering weight hung over the ruins, something she could neither explain nor ignore.
"This was the heart of our Order," Nebulor replied.
He moved forward slowly, his steps heavy but purposeful.
As always, he wore the tight black bodysuit that had once inspired fear throughout the galaxy. His long crimson cape drifted silently across the dusty floor. Yet the menace that had once surrounded him was gone. In its place remained a quiet dignity.
"My sensors are detecting a strong technological signature ahead," Doro Android reported as she carefully climbed over a fallen block of stone.
She paused.
"Strange. My systems recognize something, but access is denied."
A soft:
"Bidi bidi bip."
escaped her speakers.
Cathy frowned.
"That sound always makes me nervous."
Doro tilted her head.
"Why?"
"Because it usually means something strange is about to happen."
They continued deeper into the ruins.
Eventually they reached the center of the hall, where a broad shaft of sunlight poured through the broken ceiling.
There, among massive stone blocks, lay a gigantic figure.
Joy stopped.
"What... is that?"
A Guardian rested before them.
The ancient figure measured nearly four meters in height. It lay upon its back as though it had fallen in battle ages ago. Its arms rested motionless at its sides. The simple face gazed upward toward the sky while dust and sunlight drifted across its weathered metal surface.
Nothing about it resembled a soldier or a machine. It wore no armor, no clothing, no insignia. Its form was complete unto itself.
"A Guardian," Nebulor whispered.
A rare smile touched his face.
Slowly he approached the giant's head, stepped over a piece of fallen stone, and knelt beside it.
"After two thousand years?" Cathy crossed her arms. "That thing is scrap metal."
"Not to me."
Nebulor reached beneath the collar of his suit and drew forth a heavy amulet hanging from an ancient chain.
With practiced precision, he placed it into a nearly invisible recess in the Guardian's forehead.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then a deep vibration rolled through the floor.
Small stones trembled.
Dust drifted from the walls.
Behind the Guardian's dark eye slits, a warm amber light slowly appeared.
Calm.
Steady.
Like eyes opening after a very long night.
Metal groaned.
The massive arms shifted.
The Guardian began to rise.
Nebulor glanced toward Joy.
"Joy."
She looked at him questioningly.
"Stand beside me."
"Why?"
A faint smile appeared on his face.
"He should see you."
Joy hesitated only briefly before stepping to her father's side.
Together they stood within the beam of sunlight.
With a deep mechanical sigh, the Guardian rose to its full height.
Now it towered above them all like a living monument.
Its glowing eyes moved slowly across the gathered figures.
First Cathy.
Then Doro.
At the sight of the ancient being, another involuntary:
"Bidi bidi bip." escaped Doro's speakers.
She frowned.
"Why do I keep doing that?"
No one answered.
The Guardian's gaze moved on.
To Joy.
And finally to Nebulor.
For a long moment, silence filled the hall.
Then the giant stepped forward.
Slowly, it lowered one knee onto the dusty floor.
Its head bowed in reverence.
When it spoke, its voice rolled through the ruins—deep, resonant, and impossibly old.
"It has been a long night, my lord."
A brief pause followed.
Then its glowing eyes lifted to Nebulor.
"Welcome home, Supreme Keeper."
