Procedural Wood Studies
3D Render by ckojicA deep dive into fully procedural wood shading, focusing on realistic grain flow, material physics, and seamless mapless workflows.
Key Highlights:
100% Procedural Workflow: Created entirely without UV mapping or texture seams, ensuring infinite scaling and flexibility across any mesh topology.
Directional Grain Alignment: The wood fibers naturally curve and follow the geometric contour and curvature of the object, mimicking authentic natural growth.
Advanced Material Physics: Includes a subtle Subsurface Scattering (SSS) pass to capture natural light bleed through organic wood layers, combined with custom directional Anisotropy to emulate real-world fiber sheen and reflection.
Minimal Form, Complex Shading: Applied to simple geometric forms to keep the spotlight entirely on the complexity, depth, and micro-details of the material.

This is completely above my pay grade, but I absolutely love how the wood texture looks! It is fantastic. So realistic looking. The fiber and sheen look great! I am totally impressed.

Mon, Jul 27Thanks a ton! That means a lot. The wood texture was definitely the most fun part to develop—spent a good deal of time tweaking the fibers and sheen to make it feel authentic. Glad you like it!

Mon, Jul 27If you decided to sell this as an fbx or Daz Studio file, please let me know. It would be perfect for some of my kid renders

Mon, Jul 27I can give you the model for free, but materials might be an issue due to their procedural nature and tight integration with V-Ray. The model isn't fully UV unmapped, and there are some textures I can't share. However, if you want a clean model, I'd be happy to provide it.
