GMLAB (born in 1970) is a DJ , VJ, Producer ,Art Director and Music Junkie. It's something in the soul, not a title. Something you breathe, not walk through. The time is up for shortcuts, maybes and we'll sees. The time is ripe for creating, thinking, pushing, forcing, failing and succeeding. These are my verbs, my words to help me, guide me and above all else inspire me. I am an art director and this is my stage.... Feel free to check out my portfolio and get to know more about my projects. In case you have any comments, suggestions, etc. please feel free to post a message, or hit me with an e-mail.

Yamaha RY30 Drum Machine 3D Model

"Yamaha RY30 Drum Machine"

All parts were made from scratch in Vue Studio and I converted everything to OBJ format so that I could finish everything in Daz Studio. Textures are self-made and others are Daz shaders to get everything correct.

My story about the RY-30
This wasn't my first drum machine, but it was one of the best I've ever owned. After I was expanding my studio and had the Casio FZ-1 at home, I then bought the Yamaha RY-30 with 2 extra wave cards. With the wave cards you could load extra preset sounds and thus also configure your own sounds. During that period I also managed to have my official releases on CD and vinyl and so my music went around the world. My first record that came out was "Tom Tombi - There is a void" in 1997 and many more tracks followed after that. It was a great time working in my studio with all that hardware!

About the RY-30
The RY30 is an elegant Drum Machine with advanced synth-like features that give it a really great sound. Its sounds come from a sample-based ROM synthesis engine belonging to Yamaha's SY/TG series of digital synthesizers. It's sounds are 16-bit, 48kHz PCM with digital multi mode filters. It can store up to 100 user patterns and 20 songs, plus it comes with 100 preset patterns in various styles for instant drum accompaniment.

The RY30 has 90 wave forms, most of which are acoustic drum and percussion samples. There are an additional 6 analog waves including sine, triangle, and saw waves. Two oscillators can be layered per voice, and the voices can be pitched and played via MIDI. It has 16-note polyphony, but loses one voices to the metronome. There are eight touch sensitive pads dedicated to a certain type of drum sound. There are 96 drums sounds built-in (12 banks of eight). Additional sounds and patterns can be brought in via ROM cards for the RY30/RM50 as well as some SY/TG cards.

There are digital 12 and 24 db/oct hi-pass and low-pass filters which sound ok, and are great for contouring sounds. There are no effects except internal samples can be played in reverse. It also has four outputs that you can assign any drum sound to (kick, snare, hi-hat, etc). A nice little Modulation Wheel can adjust the pitch, decay time, pan, filter cutoff and the balance of the oscillators. As far as drum machines go, the RY30 is one of the nicest and biggest rivals of the venerable Roland R8.
