Bastet Imophise, the Immortal Mummy
An Alan Quatermain Adventure — Secrets of Ancient Africa

Egypt, 1939.

Beneath the scorching sands of the Valley of the Kings, a Nazi expedition, dispatched on the orders of Heinrich Himmler, had desecrated a tomb forgotten for thousands of years. The SS soldiers were searching for a legendary artifact, one said to grant its possessor the power to command the ancient forces of Egypt.

Deep within a burial chamber, illuminated by flickering torches, stood a black sarcophagus adorned with golden hieroglyphs. Its lid bore the image of a regal woman crowned with a solar disk, accompanied by the sacred symbol of Bastet, the cat goddess.

When the soldiers finally forced the lid open, an icy mist poured from the tomb.

Inside lay a woman of haunting beauty, wrapped in finely embroidered linen bandages. Her long black hair, miraculously preserved, framed a noble face. Golden bracelets adorned her wrists, and a necklace bearing the image of a sacred cat rested upon her chest.

Suddenly, her eyes opened.

Two emerald-green irises glowed with an otherworldly light.

“By Osiris…she whispered. “Has the world of the living summoned me once more?
The soldiers stumbled backward in terror. Their commander, an SS officer, raised his pistol and barked an order in German. But the woman slowly sat upright, casting aside her bandages as though they were nothing more than delicate veils.

“I am Bastet Imophise, daughter of the Nile, guardian of the secrets of the Pharaohs. Who dares disturb my eternal slumber?
One soldier fired. The bullet struck an invisible golden shield and fell harmlessly to the ground.

Moments later, the soldiers swarmed her. Despite her supernatural powers, she was overwhelmed by their numbers. They bound her in chains and carried her to their camp, convinced they had discovered the supernatural weapon their master so desperately desired.

They had no idea that another man was already following their trail.

Alan Quatermain.

The legendary adventurer, hunter, and explorer of the African continent had intercepted reports of a mysterious discovery in the Valley of the Kings. Intrigued by rumors of an ancient relic capable of defying death itself, he had set out to track down the expedition.

Under cover of darkness, he slipped into the Nazi camp. A few well-placed shots, a clever diversion, and a healthy dose of daring brought him to the tent where the prisoner was being held.

When he lifted the canvas flap, he found himself face-to-face with a chained woman whose emerald eyes seemed to pierce the darkness.

“I take it you’re not a tourist,he remarked, adjusting his battered old hat.

Bastet tilted her head.

“And you, mortal? Have you come to rescue me, or to claim the treasures of my tomb?
“I generally prefer to rescue people before discussing their treasures.
For the first time in three thousand years, the mummy smiled.

Alan fired twice at the approaching guards, snatched the keys from the officer he had ambushed, and unlocked her chains. Then he offered her his hand.

“If you can run, my dear, now would be an excellent time!
“I was born when your ancestors were little more than children of the sun, adventurer. I assure you, I know how to run.
Within seconds, the camp's torches began going out one by one. A swarm of cats emerged from the nearby ruins, throwing the soldiers into confusion. Amid the chaos, Alan and Bastet vanished into the desert.

By sunrise, they had reached the top of a rocky ridge. The first rays of dawn illuminated the golden dunes below.

Bastet gazed at the rising sun.

“Three thousand years have passed… My temples have crumbled, my Pharaohs have turned to dust, and mankind has invented machines that spit fire. Yet greed remains unchanged.
Alan settled onto a rock and lit his pipe.

“I'm afraid that's one of the few things you can always count on.
She turned her mysterious gaze toward him.

“You freed me without knowing who I was. Why?
He shrugged.

“Because I don't care much for men who put others in chains. And because I've always had a weakness for a good mystery.
Bastet placed one hand over her heart.

“Then hear my vow, Alan Quatermain. For as long as breath remains in your body, I shall be your ally. I shall watch over your path, fight your enemies, and guide you into places where no living man should dare venture.
Alan raised an eyebrow.

“That sounds rather useful. I happen to know several places just like that.
She laughed, the sound bright and unexpectedly human.

And so began an extraordinary alliance: that of a fearless British adventurer and an immortal priestess of ancient Egypt, endowed with forgotten powers and an indomitable will.

From that day forward, Bastet Imophise became the unwavering friend and companion of Alan Quatermain, the great herald of Africa, joining him on his most perilous expeditions.

Together, they faced secret cults, relic hunters, ruthless warlords, and creatures that modern science refused to acknowledge. Where Alan brought courage, instinct, and hard-earned experience, Bastet offered the wisdom of vanished civilizations, the power of ancient magic, and a loyalty forged across eternity.

And whenever an ancient whisper rose from forgotten ruins somewhere in the heart of Africa, Alan needed only to smile and reach for his rifle.

“Well, Bastet, my old friend… It seems our next adventure is calling.
The mummy adjusted her traveling cloak, her emerald eyes gleaming in the shadows.

“After you, my dear Alan. But this time, do try not to get me captured by men in uniform.
“I shall do my very best.
And beneath the eternal African sun, the two companions set off into the unknown once more, bound by a pact that even death itself could never break.
