Character Biography
Desiring an heir, the Nazi war criminal Red Skull impregnated a servant. The woman died during childbirth, giving birth to a daughter—a fact that enraged Schmidt. Just as he was about to strangle the child, his then-accomplice, Susan Scorbo, intervened and managed to convince him to let her take charge of raising the baby.
Upon reaching adulthood, Synthia Schmidt became the leader of the Sisters of Sin—young orphans whom the Red Skull had altered to develop psionic powers. Under the alias "Mother Superior," she faced Captain America for the first time.
Susan Scorbo eventually resumed command, and Synthia adopted the name "Sister Sin."
Captured by S.H.I.E.L.D., she was sent to a correctional facility, where attempts were made to implant false memories in her (in an effort to "normalize" her).
When the Red Skull was assassinated by the Winter Soldier—acting on orders from Aleksander Lukin—the mercenary Crossbones rescued the young woman and tortured her to break the conditioning imposed by S.H.I.E.L.D. The two terrorists began a relationship, and she took the name "Sin." They traveled across the United States, killing numerous civilians, before eventually reuniting with the Red Skull, who was living within the mind of General Lukin.
Following the "death" of Captain America, Sin took command of a new Serpent Squad in an attempt to free Crossbones, who had been captured after his crimes. However, he was subsequently recaptured by law enforcement.
She later set out to assassinate presidential candidates, but was thwarted by the new Captain America. After attempting to transfer her father’s mind—which resided in a robotic body, much like Arnim Zola’s—into the body of Steve Rogers, she was caught in an explosion that left her face severely burned, leading her to become the new Red Skull.
Master Man helped her escape from prison, intending for her to become the quintessential Nazi leader.
Fear Itself
After resuming the research of the Thule Society—which her father had once led—she tracked down an Asgardian artifact that had appeared in Antarctica. Upon touching the sacred hammer, she became the avatar Skadi, herald of the Serpent—the god of Fear—whom she then freed from his watery prison[1].
