Manufacturing settings
For 3D Printing (FDM/SLA)
Material: Transparent/Translucent PLA, PETG, or clear resin for the lampshades to maximize light diffusion and highlight the ribbed textures. Use Solid PLA, Matte PETG, or Wood-fill for the base.
Print Mode (Lampshades): Highly recommended to print using Vase Mode (Spiralize Outer Contour) with a larger nozzle (0.6mm or 0.8mm) for a fast, sturdy, and completely seamless translucent shade. Alternatively, print with standard settings using 1-2 wall loops and 0% infill.
Layer Height: 0.16mm - 0.20mm. A slightly thicker layer height can actually enhance the light-refracting properties of transparent filaments.
Infill: 15-20% for the base to provide sufficient weight and stability.
Supports: No supports required. The geometries are optimized for support-free printing.
For CNC Machining
Recommended Material: Frosted Cast Acrylic or Polycarbonate for the shades. Hardwood (Walnut/Maple), Brass, or Aluminum for the base.
Tooling: * Use a Ball Nose End Mill for surfacing the exterior ribs and complex curves to achieve a smooth finish.
Use a Flat End Mill to hollow out the interior and machine the precise IKEA MITTLED pocket in the base.
Process: The complex curves (especially the spiral and curvy lantern designs) will require a 4-axis rotary CNC setup for continuous, seamless milling. Use the provided .STP files for the most accurate CAM toolpath generation.
