For 3D Printing (FDM/SLA)
Material: Matte PLA, Wood-fill PLA, or PETG are highly recommended. A matte finish helps to highlight the beautiful curves of the fins without harsh reflections.
Layer Height: 0.16mm - 0.20mm. A finer layer height will make the twisting curves of the fins look incredibly smooth.
Infill: 15% - 20% for the base and top rings. The fins themselves will likely print as solid walls depending on your wall thickness settings.
Retraction & Supports: Tune your retraction settings carefully to avoid stringing between the numerous fins. The design is intended to print with minimal to no supports, provided your printer has good bridging capabilities for the top ring.
Safety Note: Please use an LED filament bulb, not a traditional incandescent bulb, to ensure the plastic does not warp from heat.
For CNC Machining
Recommended Material: High-density Hardwood (Walnut or Maple) or Cast Acrylic.
Machining Strategy: Because of the complex parametric undercuts and twisting fins, machining this as a single solid block requires an advanced 4-axis or 5-axis CNC setup.
Alternative Fabrication: Utilizing the .STP file, makers can also slice the model radially to laser-cut or CNC-route individual fin profiles from sheet wood or acrylic, then assemble them around the central core.
