Swirl Globe Table Lamp - IKEA MITTLED Compatible - 3D Print
Add a touch of organic elegance to your interior with the Swirl Globe Table Lamp. This beautifully crafted 3D asset features a spherical lampshade adorned with sweeping, continuous swirling ridges that masterfully diffuse light.
Designed with seamless DIY integration in mind, the base is custom-engineered to perfectly house the IKEA MITTLED LED puck light. This makes it an incredibly safe, low-heat, and easy-to-assemble weekend project, casting a mesmerizing and warm play of light and shadow across your living room, bedside table, or modern office.
Built for both hobbyist makers and professional manufacturers, this model balances aesthetic appeal with technical precision. The download includes standard mesh files for immediate 3D printing, as well as industrial-grade STP and Plasticity source files. This ensures flawless scalability, easy CAD modification, and perfect NURBS geometry for advanced CNC machining.
Key Features:
Organic Swirl Design: A spherical body with twisting ridges for a dynamic visual effect.
IKEA Hack Ready: Custom-designed base ensures a snug, friction-fit for the IKEA MITTLED LED component.
Seamless Aesthetics: Designed to hide the hardware, focusing all attention on the glowing sculptural shade.
Multi-Format Access: Includes STL (printing), OBJ (rendering), and STP/Plasticity (.plasticity) files for professional engineering and CNC use.
Settings and Manufacturing Instructions
For 3D Printing (FDM/SLA)
Material: Translucent PLA, White PETG, or clear resin are highly recommended for the shade to maximize ambient light diffusion. Use Solid Matte PLA or Wood-fill for the base.
Layer Height: 0.16mm - 0.20mm. A lower layer height will ensure the sweeping curves on the top dome print smoothly without heavy stepping.
Wall Lines & Infill: For the shade, print with 1 or 2 wall loops and 0% infill to allow maximum light to pass through. The base should be printed with 15-20% infill for stability.
Supports: The swirling ridges are optimized for 3D printing, but depending on your printer's cooling capabilities, you may need minimal "tree" or "snug" supports near the very top rim where the dome closes inward.
For CNC Machining
Recommended Material: Frosted Cast Acrylic or Polycarbonate for the shade. Fine-grain Hardwood (like Maple or Walnut) or Aluminum for the base.
Tooling: * A Ball Nose End Mill is essential to surface the complex, swirling 3D curves of the globe without leaving rough steps.
A Flat End Mill is required to bore out the precise pocket for the IKEA MITTLED puck in the base.
Machining Strategy: Due to the spherical shape and continuous undercuts of the spiral fins, a 4-axis rotary or 5-axis CNC setup is highly recommended to machine the globe as a single piece. Use the provided .STP file for the most precise CAM toolpath generation.
