Spanish NAO wooden oldship 3D Model
Naos were larger vessels than caravels. Of Cantabrian origin, they emerged as a result of increased maritime trade and the need for greater cargo capacity. They were the result of the evolution of shipbuilding and the expertise of the shipwrights of the time, who were able to surpass the performance of the ships they built, which over time improved in seaworthiness, stability, speed, and cargo capacity. The nao was derived from the "cocas" (a type of dinghy), to which a lateen sail was added at the stern.
