Daz is killing it’s bare bones AI generator
365https://www.daz3d.com/blog/ai-studio-important-update
It was never more than a cynical site retention measure at best.
Daz thought that by providing its users with
bare bones onsite AI image generator that was light years behind the likes of Midjourney or Leonardo Ai etc, that they never updated to be competitive , that it will keep them
on the plantation and buying new content.
Well they failed, and no one on the Daz forums even blinked.

They claimed the reason for the shut down is this:

LOL!!
I know many people running open source
Local AI generators on their home PC/GPUs with their own custom training Data
without "partners providing APIs"
Another typical example of Daz grifting off of third party tech to trying and fool its users into thinking they innovate when they really have not innovated years, except this time they had Real world competition in other AI systems to show everyone
how low effort their tacked on "Daz studio AI" actually was

I have no hope for Studio (and maybe Daz itself) in the long run. Ever since this Tafi thing took over (or whatever the deal was) it's been nothing but bullshit, short sighted screwups that they figured would make them rich. Daz now behaves like an equity firm only interested in massive short term profits with no concern for long term viability. Studio 5 will be a badly written mess hidden behind a paywall. I'm hanging onto all my older versions of Studio.

Actually the official build of the Daz studio Alpha is version 6.X
But you are quite right in that they see what is popular in other ecosystem and cobble up a half
hearted "bridge" for injecting genesis content
into it hoping to attract new buyers to the Daz content hamster wheel.
The Daz to Roblox exporter is a perfect example of them not "reading the room" by thinking that genesis models fit the popular aesthetic of the Roblox world.

Thornton Tafi never saw dazz3d as anything but a cash cow.

Wed, Jun 04'Tafi' is a real person? I assumed it was just a random name. I'd be interested in any information you have on him/her/it and how they are influencing Daz.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Wed, Jun 04Never mind.....I'm reading articles where he's hyping himself as he describes how he's turned Daz around (James Thornton) and gotten into NFT's et al. He's a perfect example of wanton and short sighted greed. He's doing to Daz what he did to Cricut.
I think the one thing biting them in the ass is their anti-critique attitude towards studio via the forums…
Daz desperately needs some self-reflection!
And the only reason I'm not on the AI bandwagon (AI not driven by stolen artwork) is for the fact that most are rentware, and online-only, sure I'd like to buy a perpetual licence, but the issue of rentware and online-only through company websites is a definite pass from me as I plan to go the adult-route with my animations, and I don't need some judgmental prick in charge of what I can create!

If you are technically inclined and have a decent GPPU you can install something like "Comfy UI " or "Automatic1111"
and create your own training LORAs from renders of your purchased content and create as many NSFW still images as you please privately at home without any data going online and without paying a single penny.
Many former Daz studio users are going this "offline" route as well as many private businesses for Data security
AFAIK there are no publicly available options to make actual XXX rated adult AI films, not even from the popular paid services
because of the obvious "Deep Fake " concerns about misusing likenesses of real life people etc..

Thu, Jun 05Thanks for the info, I was hoping you would chime in with some links, thanks a lot, now I know where to start!
As far as NSFW, the most hardcore I would go is to simply have nude models dancing, and non-nude-based fetishes, as there are a shit ton of people that want to see that! If I could master it, I would be able to financially support myself with my art!

I think trend chasing companies like Tafi (which was fully on-board with NFTs, Metaverse, and the whole nebulous "Web 3" right up until those bubbles popped) are a significant part of what fuels the strong feelings about the underlying tech.
Like, I've been involved or adjacent to AI research for my entire career. Hell, I was working on an "Intelligent Agent" architecture before I was done with grad school, so I've seen a few AI hype cycles and the resultant "AI Winter" that happens after the hype deflates. This one is incredibly intense, and when the bubble pops, I do worry about the collateral damage it will cause to the tech sector (and maybe the economy at large, if it ends up being like the Dot Com bust). I also am certain that there will be some things that shake out of the mess as genuinely useful technology (I'm *skeptical* that any of the current generation of generative models will end up in that genuinely useful category, but that skepticism is well founded based on education and experience and is only skepticism...it's not a religious position and it isn't one I make into my entire personality), but the gold rush mentality that VC-funded startups and vulture capitalist "Private Equity" firms create is never about actually *making* anything or caring much what it is that your company theoretically does, and that's a huge factor in the fact that the discourse on the subject is incredibly toxic, to the point that you can't register even a mild interest or skepticism about the subject without someone taking it as a personal attack and responding disproportionately.
All of that to say: good riddance to bad rubbish. They can toss it into the same bin they threw this incredibly content-free marketing nonsense

Fri, Jun 06I still contend that the metaverse was never going to happen. It, and the company name change, happened right around the time they were facing strict regulation. Their stock was tanking, so Zuck's boardroom changed the company name, set a mandatory increased price floor on their VR equipment, and made some big announcement about some upcoming metaverse where they could use all their blockchain-based assets. NFTs skyrocketed in both popularity and uselessness, Facebook-turned-Meta's stock soared again, and they rode it until they no longer had to deliver.
Tafi's change to making their discord server entirely into an NFT marketing device (apes, more apes, some batman, apes, some Game of Thrones NFTs that had hands reminiscent of Salad Fingers, and more apes) and their PAs literally saying that they had plans to partner with Meta smacked all trust right out the window. Once all that NFT trust and money ran out, they started taking it out on the Daz customers.
Killed that thing.

The Dotcom bust did not globally erase the underlying internet technology that made the
E-commerce of today possible.
It only destroyed fake companies that were not providing true value.
The same will happen when the AI hype depletes itself.

Wed, Jun 04Im not sure why, but I expected his soccer head to burst, just as a visual FX. The information you imparted makes sense, there are always a few winners and a lot of losers on the hype bubble.
