Feature Updates: Product User Renders and Gallery Navigation
159We recently made two user experience updates:
1. The product "User Renders" functionality has changed.
- User Renders are now tied to gallery submissions and are no longer a separate thing.
- The "Submit Your Render" link now prompts a gallery submission with the marketplace item URL pre-populated.
- All gallery items that have "Marketplace Items Used" will now automatically appear as a User Render on product pages.
- The User Renders section now properly respects the viewing user's selected SafeSite setting.
- Vendors still have full control of the User Renders that appear on their product pages, and can delete any if they wish.
This change is retroactive. Any gallery items that previously had "Marketplace Items Used" - but were not submitted as User Renders - will now appear on the product pages.
2. Floating gallery navigation buttons have been added.
- We've had many requests for an easier way to browse through individual artists' galleries.
- You can now do this by using the floating navigation buttons that appear at the bottom of gallery pages.
- These navigation buttons respect the selected sort order and SafeSite setting.
This functionality has also been added to contest galleries, making it easier to browse all contest submissions.

Please share your feedback on either of these features. We'd love to hear your thoughts.

The product "User Renders" functionality
Although I think this is a great idea, I recently had the idea of posting renders directly to the product page as is does not take up personal gallery space.
I realized I could help out the vendor with a promo render and not effect my own gallery. There's always two sides to a coin and you can't please all the people all the time. Re - "Marketplace Items Used" submitted as User Renders - will now appear on the product pages. That's a nice feature and promotes both parties.
I actually want to reduce my gallery here or rather clean it up. This brings me to a question about the gallery. Without wishing to make work for the sake of it could our galleries have a feature for portfolio that would place images tagged as "portfolio" at the top of the gallery. Other general images such as product or wips would be seen under the portfolio images. Alternatively being able to force our gallery to show our best or highlighted work as opposed to showing recent. A gallery landing page.
Just an idea and sharing my thoughts.

Well, it certainly saves me having to upload the same render in 2 (or more!) different places. It does raise the question of tag vs. featured - there have been instances where I'd tag a product but it's not really a featured part of the render, just... there. It's nothing I manually would (have) upload(ed) to a product's gallery, but it is something I would still tag as it's in the render. At least the vendor has some control over which renders get included, because there is the mature render question, among others.
Also, should I cringe over how I've just taken over numerous products' galleries? LOL
Though it does provide a fun little statistic.
Also, I was somewhat wondering how the arrows were sorted, as I started using them to navigate from render to render.
On a side topic, the taggable products list should probably get a little expansion - I can fill those 6 slots up pretty fast and have plenty left to tag.
