" Slop " is Merriam-Webster's word of the year for 2025
174They want things that are real, they want things that are genuine, " he said. " It's almost a defiant word when it comes to AI. When it comes to replacing human creativity, sometimes AI actually doesn't seem so intelligent.

Mon, Dec 15, 2025I've heard it elsewhere in many online spaces, including the gaming and music communities. Although not just with AI, people have used it as an insult for the things they generally don't like to the point "slopslop" has been uttered.
"SLOP" is a well established word in the english language been around for hundreds of years, slop is what you feed pigs, food wastes and garbage cause pigs will eat anything. .
Now, AISlop that's really hit it stride this year. yet still feeding garbage in its own special way.

Mon, Dec 15, 2025But hands off my vegan Sloppy Joe
I found Greg Barlow's reasoning particularly interesting (see quote), as he expresses exactly what I think: in the field of generative imagery (AI), the trend is moving in one direction: downwards.

Well, sadly, my opinion of "western entertainment and gaming" is mostly "SLOP" for the last 5 to 10 years. Maybe a little "quality" AI competition from some unknowns would be good for the real world entertainment industry. I'd say I'm getting old and getting to the point I've seen it all but I've lost track of how many times I've rewatched KPop Demon Hunters so I know I can still be suprised.
