I've only made one purchase since they silenced me a couple of years ago for criticizing their new subscriptions. I mostly haven't missed it and it saved me a lot of money since I was a whale. Although, I am starting to notice limited hair offerings and quality dforce clothes on the third party stores though. So I've contemplated going back but still not subscribing to any of their nonsense. I really don't want to give them any money though.
What about you?
What about you?

I would actually do buy from their store, but there is just not much that would float my boat.
I am just tired of the same run of the mill repeating content type, like:
-k-pop models for G9
-cyber punk cities
-lingeries
-scifi cyber punk gaming rooms
-modern straight line architecture
-enchanting forrestes
-yada, yada
Do not get me wrong. None of this is bad quality, it just raises the question of how much more of this do we need.
Yeah, I know. Sale numbers, mainstream, I know, but playing safe is the death of creativity.

I do but its usually environmental, props, and the occasional, oops, I missed that for G8 somewhere along the line. Most of it goes into the wishlist and I'll wait till the really good sales when I can binge and get everything for dirt cheap. I did let my Daz+ expire when they came out with the premium membership bs.

To understand why there are so few high-quality dForce clothing items, I suggest you try this test.
Take a skirt or dress conforming garment randomly from your library, render it as dForce, and then test different poses.
Some garments will explode, others will disappear during the simulation.
Sometimes the garment will come unstitched.
The unexpected result might make a beautiful image, but when you have an image in mind and the result isn't what you expected... well, you know what I mean smile
I solved the problem in my own way; I let my clients convert my clothes into dForce and modify its settings.

I gave up on their intricate and intertwined sales a few years ago
"Buy this to get a discount on that, woven in with the other thing that is only on sale if it's a full moon and Mars is in retrograde........"
Instead, I wishlist hair (from certain artists), merchant resource shaders, HDRIs (particularly from Orestes) and Poses by Aeon Soul........I then let them sit, popping in from time to time when I have some extra money and buying one item on sale...sometimes two......sometimes I realize I don't need or want the thing on my wishlist and I remove it
So, I still buy from them occasionally.... more often than Renderosity but still not with any regularity

Tue, Feb 03You're right about those convoluted sales; major turnoff. Maybe I'll take your approach and just let stuff sit in my wishlist until it's stupid cheap and then pick it up.
Yeah ocasionally I buy things there. As my content is mature content I try to create my own things as a hobby. But like you, normally I go there to buy hair and some outfits.

very very rarely since I tend to make content rather than consume it, and although I do list my work safe free stuff in their forums I don't bother trying to post anything social there any more since about 2/3 of my posts end up being deleted for some reason or other. I will buy the very occasional hair, because I'm not very good at making hair, but otherwise no. Not to say there isn't any good content in the store, I just am not interested in buying or using it for myself.

Tue, Feb 03Yeah, totally inconsistent and you basically have to be a daz cheerleader to keep your posts from getting removed.
I do, but only because of a few vendors I like Toyen, FE, HnC, SU, PW, XI (I love some of his environments), and rarely MB for clothing. For everything else I need, I would rather buy it here.

I haven't bought a thing from DAZ 3D since they kicked off the whole DAZ Premier thing, and up to that point, I had a $100+-a-week habit. I've gotten a load of freebies off of them since then, but they haven't gotten so much as a God damn penny from me in that whole time. And I haven't been able to post in their forums since I was excommunicated during the Encryption Wars.

Wed, Feb 04Nah, I just got flat-out blocked from posting. One of their mods made a statement that was clearly false, I explained why it was false, they said I was calling their mod a liar (which I never did), and I haven't been able to post a thing since.

Sat, Feb 07it's honestly really dumb how heavy handed they are modding their forums, as pretty much any internet boutique style business with a forum can tell you 90% of their customers never look at their forum at all

Sat, Feb 07I think it's more about keeping up appearances for the investors. God forbid a factual criticism in the forums about a business's policies and practices should scare off the venture capital.

Sun, Feb 08If I was an investor, I'd want to know not only how other investors might view a company, but also how that company interacts with its customer base and what those customers think. Keep in mind that DAZ/Tafi tried to break into NFTs, assets for AAA game studios, avatars for Metaverse, etc. -- things they thought had huge growth (and thus investment) potential. (And of course they were the only ones who didn't know from the start that those attempts would fail.) They also need to keep up appearances to lure in and retain the next generation of adopters/users, not only to grow their base but to simply replace the older users who retired, died off, lost interest, or noped out because of their crappy practices and policies. That means that anything and everything that doesn't promote the message they want to present -- no matter how truthful, factual, politely stated, etc. -- needs to be purged.
Not as much as I used to. A few things I can't find here make the WL until a deep enough sale (usually at the end of select months) has me considering finally picking it up. I'm probably missing out on a lot as a result of not spending too much time browsing their MP overall.

At the beginning when I was learning about daz studio and before knowing Rendero and ShareCG, I only took free products to make images. I then wanted to understand how to create furniture, a simple character, since then I no longer buy anything anywhere. I prefer creating a piece of furniture or a garment than making an image

I do at times, but I avoid the whole buy this and get a discount on this other thing. If I see something really good on sale, I pick it up.

I will occassionally pick up an item during the bigger storewide sales, the math on those make sense with the stacking discounts, and since I don't buy any G9 stuff, it is easy to not be attracted by the hype. Plus my Library is huge. once you have 17 living rooms, and 18 bathrooms, you're good. and ten castle, and 150 hairs...

I haven't bought from effing Daz in years and not just because I've been banned (several times) from their forums for taking them to task over something. I've been at this since the first version of Poser and have a harddrive choking collection of items. I don't need much anymore and as has been mentioned, so much of the new content is redundant. These days I support folks like TruForm by buying from his personal site ( https://inlitestudio.com/ ). He makes excellent buildings that are original. I also grab some of the weird creatures from Summoner.

I still shop at Daz, as it's the only place to buy scripts and plugins, as there's only a few offered here, but for a few favoured PAs, everything else it's pretty much bought here...

I still buy there.
I think there is a decent amount of good things worth buying.
Although I usually wait for sales of course.
I do agree with Masterstroke, too much repeating content type.
I also agree with AlfRaMusic.

I still pounce in wait for the frequent sale discounts, which often go to 60% or much higher. In practice I get more environments and clothing than anything else, with Genesis 8 still getting preference over G9. I'm aware of the creeping enshittification, and quietly learning Blender while declining to pay a sub for features that should already be in the software.
I only go to their forum when attempts to find the info I'm after have failed EVERYWHERE else, which I'm relieved to see doesn't need explaining here.

Thu, Feb 05I browse their forums every day. I believe that it's in my best interest to keep on top of what the enemy is doing.
Yes, the only reason I don't buy more from there is because they don't list the estimated file size. So I'm always having to guess how large something will be. Some vendors just make their products needlessly large, so I avoid them completely.

Sun, Feb 08Might as well name drop them, but I used to like Mousso from the DAZ3D shop. But ever since G9, all their characters use 8k maps and then have a ton of those HD morphs so they're always 1 GB or more. They never pulled this nonsense with G8/G8.1, and one reason I'm always skeptical whenever people say G9 takes up resources. Other Genesis models would be the same if they got bloated up like this too...

Sun, Feb 08well even un-textured G9 consumes more memory just due to the ~2x base vertex count, magnified by the reliance on subdividing 3-4 times to get basics like nipples or navel to be visible.
Luxe Muse
Karma: 6,968
Sun, Feb 08Not even subdividing can you get nipples, the geometry around that area is not conforming
you are locked to DAZ basic ones or PAs with HD morph tools. and/or making your own geografts.

Sun, Feb 0899% of the characters from the PA's are re-using their textures also, (like HID and Mousso). So if you have one of the newest HID character you are going to download the same Normal, Roughness etc... and install it again, taking even more space on duplicated textures.

Sun, Feb 08Ah, so that's why I make one character every two months if not more, hi, hi, hi
Not nearly as much as I used to. Their business practices, combined with my interests shifting toward the NSFW side of things, have shifted my preferred stores away from them. I am also creating a character who is made more for nude renders than clothed renders and DAZ is not the place to sell such a character.

Fri, Feb 13She has 194 bending morphs, a few of which can be seen in the link below. Clothing will work just fine on the character, but unless she is nude or at least scantily clad, most of them will be hidden.

I needed to make a lot of corrective morphs so I decided what the hell, I'll make them part of the character instead of simply correcting unwanted deformations when posing.

Fri, Feb 13@Hellcat That’s really impressive. Having a character that already comes with tailored bending morphs is honestly the best I could hope for. I’ve been waiting years for AutoMuscle/skin fold details for G9 from D.Master and Zev0, and at this point I don’t expect them to release anything.

Just a quick reminder, but a lot of OSO3D's creatures and characters made use of the Daz proprietary HD morphs and the Daz proprietary Dforce strand based hair, which means.
He would not be able to legally sell many of them ,in their current form , in any other store.
Ahh,,, the perils of being a third party seller of someone else's closed garden technology:-/

I think it may be more of a question of does he want to undertake the effort.
As you saw, in reading the thread,he gave no specific details as to why he's leaving Daz as a PA, it could be something completely unrelated to making Daz content ,he could be committing to some full time job with a more predictable income.
Or simply retiring.
