I put a lot of work into my G8F character Roxy, it is just to difficult to let go.
If I'd manage to migrate her to another app, without loosing hundrets of custom JCMs and not loosing at least 30 expressions, I'd just leave DAZ Studio behind.
The good thing is that I still could export a lot of environments and props to other apps.
It really looks bad for DAZ after so many bad decisions.

Sun, Jun 14Sup mate. Yeah I get you. You could load each morph on a timeline one after another and export to any other 3D software and export each on as a morph then just add them as morphs and boom. you got it all again. Actually really easy to do. But yeah I hear you. To be honest I still use Daz. Less these days but I dont hate it. Its always been a great tool for my hobby work and still is in all honesty. I do hope they wake up a bit but otherwise Daz is Daz

The new Daz 6 is not a brilliant advance in computer artwork, but you have to remember it is a free program. The biggest thing I notice is that things load a lot faster. G9 characters used to take an especially long time for me. Daz 6 is able to use drivers for the more recent Nvidia GPU's. (I have a GeForce RTX 4070 Super video card).
So far, I can use all of the earlier content from Daz and other sources (including RenderHub). There is still difficulty in trying to put G8 clothing or hair on a G9 character, and poses don't translate.
I've had some crashing with the more detailed environments and multiple characters when switching from Render tab to Actors tab and back again.
The AI feature seems to be an attempt to integrate the User Manual into the program, instead of having to go to the website to access the manual. At that level it seems to be fine.
Overall, Daz 6 seems to be many good improvements for things that used to bug me. It is not a dramatic change by any means, but still, it's a good advancement.

Mon, Jul 06It is faster, renders are faster, Loading is faster. But I have had many crashes and many plugins dont work or have not been made yet.
I'm not seeing any reason to switch to it yet unless you have a 50XX NVDIA card. That said, I have both 4.24 and 6 installed, they don't interfere with each other, and I intend to wait and see. I still use Genesis 8 primarily and have a 3090 card. I'm assuming DAZ intends to keep working on 6, at some point there might be some good reasons to switch over.

I posted this into the Product Suggestion section of the DAZ Forum.
Maybe it will be deleted, but you can still read it here:
Since I assume, that DAZ is always happy to hear suggestions from their customers, I decided to post my wishlist here in the "Product Suggestion " section on what DS 6 should have been and maybe later still can become:
-Soft body dynamics
Like a huge dforce upgrade, so characters and objects have collisions with itself and others, based on presets like Clothes, Hard Surfaces, Hair and different types of clothes.
... and just much faster, please.
Some other apps do clothes simulations in real time
-Mesh Smoothing
Multiple options for meshsmoothing. Available for single groups for different clothes at once.
-Anti scating for character animations.
No more feet sliding while walking feet stay pinned exactly wher you put them.
-Surface values can be controlled with the parameter ERC command.
e.g. controll the displacement strenght of an elbow wrincle map by moving the forearm.
-More support for Omni Shader, instead of PBR shader.
-Introduce and support cycles with shader support and get away from the Nvidea only policy.
-Launch DAZ Studio for Linux
-Release Genesis 10 female and Genesis 10 male and go back to include Mouth and Eyes meshes into the base figures.

Mon, Jun 15How come you dont like the one figure is both setup? This was a huge improvement in my eyes. 1 Skeleton for all. It puts them in the right step to be used professionally and with one rig. Let me know reasons. I'm curious mate.

Mon, Jun 15Setting up two different shapes for one base looks like a compromise two me.
Male and female shapes have different requests.
you can see it in the chest area. while I think G9 chestmesh is enough for male, it lacks mesh support for G9 female.
The amount of female mesh geo graft seems to support that.
Those should not be necessary.
Then there is rigging to shape. with every rigging to shape layer it gets more inaccurate.
Base mesh < female or male mesh> character mesh
vs
Base female mesh> character mesh
Base male mesh> character mesh.
My concern about G9 are purely technical concerns.
Like many others, who don't like that uniform mesh, I don't have any idiological concerns at all, which I think of being totally ridiculous.
So I prefer specific male or female base mesh, in order to support those body shapes,
and spcifi male and female base rigging.

Mon, Jun 15Ah ok Makes sense as a creator for these things. I get it . Thanks for the explanation mate

I like the quick loading of scenes. The layout would need to be adjusted to my preferences. But, it does draw more current from your PC during renders.
Still prefer 4.24 but will keep experimenting on 6.

I shared some quick tests in another forum post, and it does improve things a little on rendering, d-force, and scene loading. I also really like the almost stylized default texture shader (I don't mean Filament or cartoon shader).
Having said that, I'm still on my 4.24, and I've gotten a few pretty bad crashes on 6. Besides that, I'm pretty sure most of the scripts I bought a long time ago won't work, and I'm not going to pay for a subscription to get them back.

My current review of DAZ 6 is simple: every time it crashes, it reminds me why DAZ Studio 4.22 is still installed on my machine. New features are nice. Being able to use them for more than ten minutes at a time would be even nicer.

I've been using the Beta 5 & 6 since I got my 5070 video card. Aside from a few scripting issues that have been resolved along the way, it's...okay.
Couple things I really don't like. Like you pointed out, that chatbot is horrible. Why bother including it? It can't see your viewport. It can't see your library. All it can do is essentially google for you and you know what? I barely google any issues for Daz. I just tinker around and try to figure it out, or I just straight up ignore and move on. I even tried to push it to do NSFW stuff and it refused. Um...Vickie...do you not know what 99% of people use Daz for? LOL
It's massively useless. If it was able to at least search your content library for you that would be a step. Dream would be to have it do some asset loading for you, or at least something more than just search the Daz forums for questions.
Something else I',m not hugely keen on is the paywalling of utilities we had access to already. Stuff like Mesh Grabber, dForce Companion, and I'm sure there's loads of others out there that were available for a purchase in the store are now no longer available in store and "If you want access, you need to pay us $20/month." It's that slippery slope of enshitification of Daz. Next they're going to lock dForce itself behind a paywall subscription. You want to animate? Well, on the Daz+ you can have 3 animation tokens, or you can purchase the Premium which will give you 10 animation tokens per day! Wow! Oh? You actually want to render with your own hardware? You can only render 5 per day, other wise you have to get the Premium to increase that to infinite. (hyperbolic...but that's how these things happen...) Or integrating AI more and more into it, shifting functionalities to the AI and make it "always on" that all your renders need to pass through the cloud first for AI Vickie to upscale it, or whatever bullshit. It's a slope...
As a result, I'm starting to learn Blender and learning how to migrate from Daz to Blender. So far, that's 100% opensource still...

Tue, Jun 16I don't have a fancy video card
But I'm going to give it a few more tries. I have to admit, I tried it really early on, and my recent test was way too quick. It didn't even come out the way I thought it would. I actually thought the render times would get worse.

Tue, Jun 16New iRay is a lot quicker even on older cards, I've found anyways. Crappy thing is, though, 4.24 doesn't support the 50-series cards so can't do iRay in it.
Thought of going back and forth between the two, 4.24 for the mesh grabber/dforce companion then save the scene and back into 6 and load the scene and render. But that becomes cumbersome.
That's what made me start thinking of going to Blender or something else. Though that's like going from riding a bicycle to flying an airplane. A lot more doodads and thingamajiggies to play around with.

Tue, Jun 16Get started with Blender, B-monster666. If you're simply fixing odd poke-throughs that aren't fixed by a push modifier, just export the clothing, for example as an OBJ, export your model for reference, bring them into Blender by importing the Wavefront OBJ, and fix it there. I know there's a learning curve, but I promise it isn't that steep. And you won't depend on MeshGrabber. MeshGrabber isn't bad, but it's very limited because the influence shape is static. You'll get better results once you find your way around in Blender. I'm sure Pushe-Ree has a tutorial on this already, hi, hi, hi (I don't really know)
I'm staying with 4.22 and 4.24 until when or if Pose Studio launches. DAZ/Tafi keeps removing basic features and selling them under their subscription BS and I have no desire to lock myself out of the older versions of DAZ by buying a 5000 series GPU.

Tue, Jun 16Ultimately, I think that will wind up hurting Daz. 3D rendering as a hobby is niche enough as it is, Daz is even a much smaller subset of it
I just gave it another go...
Uh, okay, so, switching your shading mode takes forever. From wireframe to smooth shaded, it doesn't matter. It just freezes for more than a minute for me. Then there are the camera controls. Gimbal lock galore. I use the keyboard and mouse to quickly rotate and so on. It was going all over the place when it should have been a simple rotation (perspective camera, not an actual camera).
I'll give it a try after the next update, but I switch shading constantly to see wireframes, and it won't cut it for me.

I tried it out. Hard pass.
When I'm putting together a scene and posing an object or figure, I usually look at it
through either Smooth Shaded, Texture Shaded, or Filament.
All three of them on Daz 6 are all messed up. Silhouettes in brown or grey sometimes
with a big brown block on everything. Totally unusable for me.

No intention of even downloading it.
I've been using DazStudio since DS1.8, and 4.16 works exceptionally well on my 3060
They lost me a while back. Anything subscription is a hard pass.

I think, the end phase of DAZ studio has begun.
DAZ is showing clear sign of a decaying software.
Like with Poser before, that has now become almost completely irrelevant, program updates have become small and buggy.
But even more telling is, that skilled users and vendors started stepping in on projects, that supposed to be the software guys at DAZ' job.
Like introducing alternative Render engines.
Cycley for DAZ Studio
and
Wicked renderer for DAZ studio

Tue, Jul 07Yes, render engines are an issue, but there are also vendors running circles around them in implementing AI in DAZ workflows.
Honestly, Daz was ok with 4.x and G8.x. I often stated that the business model of Daz was selling content and I wished that they would raise the compatibility to other software packages like Blender. They failed with G9 and now Daz 6 has brought no value to me, as I render in Blender and Cycles. They are definitely killing their business.

I stopped updating DS once they started with that paywalling tools crap. No intention of updating. I moved all my renders over to blender, way faster with my cycles pipeline than iray. Like last time I was testing, in order to match the quality of a 5 minute update in cycles, took almost a hour in iray. And that wasn't even a tweaked cycles, I just used a medium preset and hit go. Normally I will tune it a bit, especially when doing more than one render, 2-3 minutes or less will get me a nice result in most cases.
