A few general Questions about 3D Programs and the whole Topic of 3D.
72Hello, I have a few general Questions about the whole Topic of 3D. So far, I'm familiar with Daz Studio, Poser, and Blender. However, I've also heard about Cinema 4D, 3ds Max, and a few other Programs. I'm interested in how widely used these individual Programs are. Is Daz Studio the best-known Program of this type? What are the differences between the individual Programs?
I'd also be Interested in the Ecosystems of the individual Programs. Daz Studio has its Genesis Figures. Poser has the early Victoria Figures (1 - 4) and a few Figures developed specifically for Poser (La Femme, L'Homme). Does Blender have its own Figures, too? What is the Situation like with the other Programs? Is there compatibility between the Ecosystems, or are the Products not compatible with each other at all?
Have all these Programs been around for a long time, or were there only a few to begin with? When did 3D actually start? I know Poser was released in 1994/95-was it the first Program of its kind, or were there others before it? Do all Programs cost Money, except for Daz Studio and Blender?
Something else I'd be interested to know is whether the 3D Sector (3D Rendering) and the Gaming Sector are connected. For instance, are Products from Daz, Poser, or other Programs also used in Games? The Gaming Industry and 3D Rendering have evolved in tandem. Many Users involved in 3D Rendering also engage with Games, and it can be said that Games inspire Products for DAZ or other Programs.
A Question that has been on my Mind for a while is, can you actually make a living creating 3D Products or 3D Renderings? I've discussed this with a few Sellers before, and so far, it sounds like you don't make big Money doing it.

AUTODESK 3D Studio Max and Maya are the 3D industry powerhouses,
Along with the UNreal Game engine.
Blender 3D is an important open source Indie suite of tools.
daz studio is a small micro subset for amateurs.
Poser is a small mostly obsolete amateur tool that Daz Studio replaced.

- Is there compatibility between the Ecosystems?
Using bridges yes, but mostly no for file proprietary formats, only exported objects can be used.
- Have all these Programs been around for a long time?
Yes, Rhino, Lightwave, Softimage & 3DSMax are dinosaurs.
- When did 3D actually start?
In the 60s but 3D as we know it with softwares one could buy started in the 80s mostly for CAD
- Are Products from Daz, Poser, or other Programs also used in Games?
In some cases, 3D Sector and gaming are well connected, although most models are from inhouse modelers for big games due to licences. But for games, LOD knowledge and low poly modeling and proper texturing is required (3d models for PS2 videogames were pieces of art)
- Can you actually make a living creating 3D Products or 3D Renderings?

Maybe today, but for how long, given the rise of AI...

5 Hours agoI think AI will change the workflow, it will not replace 3D modeling, it will reduce the amount of time it takes to make a product. 3D also works really well to create base scenes for AI. If you are running DAZ with a good NVIDIA card you really need to take a look at this item, it is insanely good.

Make a basic scene in DAZ with the elements you want in it, quickly generate a picture, then throw it into AI on your local machine and let it do the rest.
