Hi everybody,
MadMike here. I want to introduce my 1st Daz Studio 6 product: A "Procedural Cable Generator (With "Chain" Feature) Script"
Actually made for myself for a gameproject, but I thought other users may find a use for it too.
*And my game development project needs to get a budget raise! LOL
Did you ever needed some wild cables to add to a render?
May it be for a massive machine, weapons, modified vehicles, a cyborg or just as a firefighter's hose or guitarcable…!
Here's a quick solution to create those big cable harnesses or just single cables.
As "Bonus feature" even chains!
It works for stills and animations and it's possible to create 1x to 80x cables for massive harnesses.
Here's the productpage with a quick demovideo for a d-force animation example:

!!! BIG ANNOUNCEMENT !!!
The next big feature update is planned for mid november as a free update!
To improve to pose the full cables (like winding those thru obstacles) I'll add a "Link Null to Spline curve" feature!
I'm looking for feedback! Which other features would you wish?

!!! Next updates!!!
- "Link Nulls to Spline curve" to pose the full cable thru obstacles
- "Presets" to load different settings for specific needs
- "A Connector / plug generator" to add these to the cable tips. Ranging from small HiFi plugs to big machine ones or even a hose noozle.

Fri, Oct 30Thanks! I'll work on some more proper promo renders soon to give ideas for uses.
It can get used to add thick cable harnesses to big machines, pimp cars in BTTF timemachine style, for cyborgs or even just a hose for a firefighter. A selection of plugs / endpieces will be included in one of the next updates. From HiFi plugs to giant machines ones.
Or just use 2 single cables as robes to create a swing, create a wreckingball, morningstar weapon... Or even a dogleash. There are way more uses than just cables. As bonus is can even create chains too.
I mainly posted it here in the forum to get new ideas for features like the now added "Dropdown Load Preset" menu with direct access to all saved presets. I'll add a selection of presets in the next update too.

Ok, here's comes a big one!
Not a fan of generating cables and you would like to use a .obj as base instead?
Even though this kind of sends the original concept a bit into oblvivion, that's exactly what will be included in the next big update.
Here's a quick 1st demo with a exported Rope (by Mochi). It has 5896 verts, 5640 faces.
Not the best model for a test with the big endpoints, but this is only for a quick demonstration.
This is only a static .obj without rigging, but can get shaped in the same way like a generated cable would. Pretty cool, huh!

There's a option to stretch it between the 2x start/end nulls too.
1st up is a basic single rope demo, the 2nd part is a demo of 20x ropes bundled!
So a bigger load of 117.920 verts / 112.800 faces! Still working pretty well.
Of course everything would get boosted if the base .obj is of lower res or "Smooth" lowered.
Set to "Draft Mode" on 32 instead of 64 it already cuts down progresstime to around 50% too.
Rougher curves can then get fixed by adding a sub-D modifier.
2 times previews were progressed, which expanded the progresstime too!
OBJ import will open a lot more creative freedom.
The short kind of noisy part in the video during the last seconds somehow was caused by OBS to screengrab the video.
And set the youtube quality to 720 or 1080.
I hope you like it!
Happy Halloween

Bit of the progresstime is caused by the calculation to keep intersectings as little as possible which needs to still look decent when a bundle gets streched or moved.
I'm on 16 core, 64GB + 12GB V-ram RTX system. There are a few options to lower load. Reducing the "Smooth" setting helps a lot. You don't need to go mad on up to 80 cables / objs at once.
Or build up a complex scene with a few less cables / obj loose stands. Or use it as excuse to buy a new PC!

I don't want to rush this new update, so it's planned to get released around the last week of november after some deeper testing.

This is too good to not instantly share!
The waiting times during preview processing really bugged me, so I worked on a optional "Auto Update Preview" which is reactive on live slider movements.
A massive performance and efficiency boost!
Even if going mad on up to 80 cables the preview is converted in seconds for a working prop.
I'll still keep the old preview option in case something slows down a slower PC way too much!

V2.2 just was released!
Changelog v2.2
- "Major update: OBJ Import" to bypass the cable generation and multiply, bundle and shape any even non rigged obj
- "Auto Live Preview" while dragging sliders (Massive Performance boost!)
- "Viewport is unlocked" behind the opened settings menu to rotate the cam and zoom for better inspection
In case something should be broken, v2.1 is still included in the zip as own folder.
