I'm glad to hear that you're looking forward to it.

Mon, Nov 21, 2022Yes, for sure! The contests have been fun.
And yes, you can. I just added this to the Official Rules page:
"You can enter with more than one submission, but you can only win once per contest."
Thanks for pointing that out. Lots of people were asking that question during the last contest.
I work remotely - so previously, I didn't have the ability to edit the contest pages the owner created, but I can now.

Hi there!
First, thank you for another opportunity to showcase our work!
Secondly, I was wondering if submissions of 3D animations (as opposed to just an image) are allowed and if they are, how can/should they be uploaded.
Thanks!

Wed, Nov 30, 2022To keep an "even playing field" and to encourage more participants, this is a still image render contest only.
We don't want to give animators an unfair advantage over those who don't do animations.
Now, the owner *is* interested in having a contest specifically for animations, so you'll probably see that in the future.
Thanks for your interest and participation in the RenderHub contests!

Tue, Dec 06, 2022Thank you for the reply...
Looking forward to submitting!

I somehow took this to be a Christmas render contest. That must show a cultural bias I have and adore, by the way. At any rate, I'm cooking something up specific to Christmas.

Thu, Dec 15, 2022It certainly *can* be, if that is your "winter fantasy".
The owner chose the theme so everyone can participate, regardless of their culture.

I see that the contest is also judged on technical ability. Does this mean we should add a description of the work that was involved, like the software used and so on?

Thu, Dec 15, 2022Hi there. That is not a requirement for the contest entries, and the judges are not required to read everyone's posts.
The entries are judged only upon the images that are submitted.
However, we do encourage people to do as you describe, and even add WIP images if you want.
I, personally, enjoy seeing and reading how people come up with their creations, and I know others do, as well.

Trying to submit a new image. I can upload the screenshot picture but nothing happens when I upload my main entry.
It's a jpeg 478kb. My other pictures submitted worked fine. Am I doing something wrong or I don't know, something changed

Sun, Dec 18, 2022I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with that.
Feel free to upload it to Google Drive (or somewhere) and give me the link.
I'll try it using one of my test accounts and see what's happening.
You can send me the link via the message center if you don't want to post it here.

Sun, Dec 18, 2022An old folk moment for sure. I had a hyphen in the title of my picture. All is well in contest entry. Enjoy

Sun, Dec 18, 2022LOL - I'm glad to hear that you got it to work.
But that still does concern me. Our system *should* allow hyphens.
And our system definitely should give a more user friendly error if something is wrong.
I don't want to bother you with this - but if you're up to it, feel free to send me the one you were trying to upload the first time.
I'll still give it a test to see what caused the problem - and make a recommendation to our coders to see if they can make changes to improve the user experience.
And thanks for participating in the contest.

Mon, Dec 19, 2022You don't need to be a seller. Any member of the RenderHub community can enter.
I fear I might of made a mistake in the theme of the contest. I thought all it was supposed to be was a winter fantasy scene.
Is the theme actually a Holiday fantasy scene ? Like what you dream of at Christmas time ? If so , back to work for me.

Tue, Dec 20, 2022No, you didn't make a mistake. Your interpretation of the contest theme is right on.
It doesn't have to be holiday or Christmas, but it *can* be if that's your winter fantasy.

When I click on the image I have posted it seems to be scaled down.
When the images are judged, do they get judged on the scaled down version we see in the forum, or the full size submitted image?

Thu, Dec 22, 2022When you click an image, it is scaled to fit the entire image in the browser window.
The judges will have access to the full sized images - no problem.

Hi,
Could you tell me the actual MAX dimension for both portrait and landscape images.
e.g.
For portrait w x h - 2000 x 3000
For landscape w x h - 4000 x 2000
This to avoid resizing at your end during entry upload.
Also, these dimensions could be fed for the rendering image size.
Thanks

Thu, Dec 22, 2022I honestly don't know what the coders have set for the maximum acceptable upload size.
But anything larger than 4K resolution (3840px on either side) will get resized to 3840px on the longest side.
So - an uploaded image with a maximum of 3840 pixels on the longest side will not be re-sized.

If I understand correctly then these dimensions will not be resized on upload function.
For portrait w x h ------------------------------ > ( 3840 - 1 ) x 3840
For landscape w x h ---------------------------> 3840 x ( 3840 - 1 )
For portrait w x h ------------------------------ > ( 3840 - 1 ) x 3840

Sat, Dec 31, 2022Sorry that I missed your message earlier.
"an uploaded image with a maximum of 3840 pixels on the longest side will not be re-sized"
That means anything 3840 pixels or below (including 3840) will not be resized by the system.
No "-1" calculations needed.

Sat, Dec 31, 2022Hi there. It appears that our system automatically ended the contest early.
It must have thought the contest was "up to" December 31st, instead of "through" December 31st.
I did a manual override, and you can now submit again.
Sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you for bringing that to my attention.

All my entries uploaded were under 3840 px but still got resized.
Have been punishing the GPU for 5 straight hours to get nice crisp details.
Anyway, I am happy I could finish all the entries and get it uploaded on the site.
Guess I will post a link to original files for the actual PNG and the ones uploaded are JPG compressed and resized.
Happy New Year!

Sat, Dec 31, 2022I just took a look at them, and you're right. The system re-sized them to 2800 px max.
Very strange. I'm sorry for the misinformation. I sent a message to our coder asking him if he changed that or just gave me the wrong info.
Anyway... Your images still look great!
Nice work. And Happy New Year to you.

I am trying to do five but after posting one, i can't get back to the entry form? Is it closed? Do I need to add them all to the same thread?

How very unprofessional this contest has been run. the end and winners dates are posted plain as day. workin on a week past posted winner announcement date, and no winners posted. Not even a peep or a reason for what is taking so long, or if they cancelled it. who knows? definition of unprofessionalism.

Sat, Jan 21, 2023I'm sorry that we couldn't make it more obvious, .snide jivy remark aside. yes it probably would be far too much trouble for some lazy moderators to put the winners in the OFFICIAL forum. i should have clicked all over first. you can keep your attitude

Sat, Jan 21, 2023I guess I'll say I'm sorry again, because I meant no attitude or snide remark.
I really am sorry that we couldn't have made it more obvious.
I truly did not think anyone would have to "click all over" when the winners were clearly posted on the official contest page.
This thread was the "start of the contest" announcement thread, so I started a new "winners announcement" thread.
I wasn't being lazy. I thought it would be less confusing to start a new thread with an appropriate title.
I'm sorry if that caused any confusion.
