So you guys had a little shakey-shakey this morning... (CLOSED)

I saw the site went down briefly. UPS failure or something? Could have just been a foreshock, keep your socks dry.
! REPORT
Just read that New York had a 4.7 magnitude shake; maybe that had something to do with it.

Fri, Apr 05, 2024And here I am talking about shakeys and foreshocks. How stupid of me.
Yes, there sure was. I'm not in NYC, but I was on the phone with the owner when it happened.
Our call didn't even get disconnected, so the RenderHub office is OK.
The site going down briefly was unrelated. That was a quick update to something.

Fri, Apr 05, 2024LIttle baby quake in my experience, but certainly something that would get your attention if you have never felt one. I've been through two big ones and a medium one (Northridge was the medium one), Loma Prieta and one up in the high desert that really rattled the tar out things. I don't miss earthquakes. Give me a tornado any day.

Fri, Apr 05, 2024An EF-3 nearly flattened my apartment, then took a dozen lives near my backyard. I'll take an earthquake or two.

Mon, Apr 15, 2024One of my earliest (and very patchy) memories is hiding under a mattress with my brothers and my mom when the June 1966 F5 hit Topeka, KS. I apparently got so scared that my nose started bleeding profusely just from stress. I was three. Freaked mom out. We lost some shingles but a couple of streets over it laid waste. That was a bad storm. Since then I've seen a few tornados in person and Ive had to run to the storm shelter a time or two in my childhood, but nothing like that. My oldest brother was riding his bike for all he was worth from the baseball field, little league practice having been cancelled. He made it home just in time to dive under the mattress with us. We had no basement. Dad was away on business and he was freaking out trying to contact us but the phones were all out. Eventually we got word to him, according to him that we were all OK so he was like "all right then, carry on". WWII vet, hard to get those guys shook up for very long.
Anyway that's my best tornado story. I'll still take a twister over an earthquake any day. At least you have some warning.

Mon, Apr 15, 2024Oh, there was no warning, unless you call 4 minutes a warning if you have a weather radio. Things can go pear-shaped really fast down in Florida. I happened to be up at 3 playing World of Warcraft with a friend who lived in Jacksonville. I lost power, said goodbye and shut down my system. Less than three minutes later I was under my bed.
