Facebook & AI (CLOSED)

Every day someone sits down at their computer and orders up another set of fake images, which is made by the Artificial Intelligence image generating program that they bought. Then the images are posted to Facebook accounts. They have multiple fake accounts, to try and push their posts into the algorithm. Many account and others manipulate people for clicks and comments, sometimes to find gullible people to scam, sometimes to sell T-shirts, sometimes, claiming to have dogs for sale. I think maybe it's just an ego trip or something, for some of them. A Facebook addiction, maybe. They call themselves "digital creators", but they are not creative. They are repetitive and unimaginative posters of "sad porn." The amount of people thinking this is real is scary!!!!
That's why I'm glad Renderhub is against it!

Thank you very much for your contribution and the pictures. It's really scary how many people think this crap is real (or "art").
There is (in my opinion) only one in a million who possibly deserves to be called an "AI artist": Roope Rainisto. He utilises the many errors that AI produces and deliberately incorporates them into his pictures. There are some really interesting things in there. An image search "Roope Rainisto west america" shows some of his nice work.
I agree 100% with your praise for renderhub (no AI)

That people use AI to produce images, why not, that they flood facebook with it is their problem and that of facebook. What bothers me the most is that they don't say they used AI to do it. This is my opinion for the "image" side
But other people, in my opinion, are more dangerous and use AI to invent credible fake news.

Wed, Jul 10, 2024Totally agree. If the image is defined as a photo and tagged as AI so people know it is not real. It would have been fairer if this were tagged as AI and then I think it's fine. But then you see the comments like Good work, Well done and the like. It makes me sick.
We are waiting for the cognitive leap from "photoshopped", "shopped", or "doctored" Image to "AI Generated" image to become more common knowledge.

Ok where to start.
Some of this has been on my mind and you have offered an opportunity for a mini rant.
Being an artist means different things to the individual. For myself at a very young age I wanted to be a film maker and not a
mechanic or work in a shity jam factory. I became a mechanic for a few years until I got lucky and got on an animation course. A
year later I made my first music video. A year after I had my own company. We didnt make much money but we made some cool stuff. It
was the 90s
I have done a lot of different jobs sometime real crap to survive, Mostly tho I have been lucky and worked as myself for myself as
an artist or engineer for the entertainment industries. I started when I was a kid and airbrushed a dragon on a Harley for a big
hairy biker. My first paid artwork. I'm old. not retired but another 15 or so years and I will be getting close. I worked on a lot
of diverse things. My life has been art in more ways than one. Having my own production company or Freelancing Building major
events as an engineer I still got to play music and paint murals even officially allowed to graffiti Glastonbury with my silly
signs.
As an engineer for events you need to find creative solutions to major problems very fast. Being a creative thinker is just the way
I work. I think it could be like autism, a weird gift that holds me back from the normy world and makes me want to make my own
things and not work for other people. It is a gift and a curse to be honest.
Social media.
Facebook itself is a stain on our species lol. my opinion of course but considering my own observations over the years I was on
facebook I have seen first hand how it and the way it gets used by most is a narcissist creation mechanism.
I have also lost contact with many people friends and family because I do not use it. They cant be arsed to use a phone or
interact like normal people. You must stay on facebook because they all use it daily. Na Thanks.
Don't get me wrong, It was a great support to me in some darker days as a lone parent we set up groups and helped people get through
court cases. Helped other parents with some serious issues. At that time FB was a useful community and I was stuck on my own with
a kid and no job. Life was hard and FB was a place my mates were.
Today I have no idea I left FB over 6 years ago and some African singer somehow has my old account and calls herself my name. I have
been Bonj the artist for many years and I also make some music so FB has stolen my brand / nickname. Same for my old youtube account.
I don't care much after 29 years in the entertainment business and my ego has regular reality checks so to be honest Fk FB and
mostly social media. I'm too old to give a toss. I just want to make models for me and if other people like them they will buy them also.
So moving on the the reason I'm replying to this post, I think you will get the connections.
About 3 years ago my aunt who is a fantastic person all round. Had a new boyfriend. They came to stay over Christmas.
All sounds very nice. Steve or rather "Sharman" as he liked to call himself was apparently a wise and balanced shaman who spent time in the usa with a tribe of native Americans. Probably just a cult. (weirdo blagging tosser more like).
Said he was an artist. He showed me some of his naff items in his "esty" shop. Tshirts , mugs, anything he could put an image on and try and sell. tat
basically.
He had it all linked to his FB as sharman. He sold some items to his lady followers. He called them his harem. A bunch of aging
rather well of women that strangely fancied the image he portrayed to them.
I watched him make his "art" without him noticing me watching. He downloaded some pictures, put some filters on them, ran them
through some apps and added effect or a simple mirror effect. and then he claimed it was all his original work.
He would also act like a shaman. I know a real shaman and they are nothing alike. Steve would 3 times a day go into the garden to
do his wim hoff breathing technique. I had new neighbors at the time and they must have thought I had a nutter staying and was
possibly one myself. It was all for show and he would try and get others to join in with his special breathing moments. It was to test people to see if they would do what he wanted even if it made them uncomfortable.
What a dick.
I have another friend that does the wim hoff thing but he runs marathons. It can help your blood oxygen for running a marathon. Not a fake hippy wannabee the leader of my own cult type like Steve.
He is basically a classic narcissist. His ego runs him, the real bloke is hiding behind the fake creation he sells to the internet
and then it spills over into the real world. He was controlling and cohesive to my aunt and all the other women that followed him
online. Often getting them to send him money. A true grifter. He tried to play the game on me and we almost came to blows a few
times especially when he tried to interfere with my parenting. After bringing up my son alone since he was 9 months old I was
pretty defensive as you can imagine.
As I knew it would eventually he cheated on my aunt and left to vampire someone else. He needed a little encouragement to leave my
aunts house as he had taken over.
The point is he is a nasty piece of work and was no artist. Just a scammer getting money from vulnerable people. He is now probably
in his element using AI to fake up more images so he can use to blag women out of their pennies.. Or get inn their knickers.
As I said before "Being a creative thinker is just the way I work. I think it could be like autism". For all the Sharman's out there
using the AI cheat code is like a drug to them. They need to social media hit and the ego needs to be fed regularly or they break
down. They cant cope with reality. It happened to the great sharman when his little empire as he called it came crashing down.
We should feel some pity for them but I have no time to pity such empty soles. Time , life, expressing ourselves in a natural
and human way is so important to us as individuals.
This AI (script based image creation tool not AI at all) is making an army of sharmans. Just that thought alone is scary for our
society not to mention our efforts as real artist.
It is important to myself to remember how powerful art is. what impact it has on our cultures world wide. We have to keep doing
what we do and fight back. To remember real art is a very powerful thing and can influence our world in so many positive or negative ways.
we cannot let the Steves take over. The AI boom will soon be over as it all looks the same once you have seen a few.
In conclusion.
I'm lucky to live in a lovely little market town, there are two traditional quite posh galleries in the high street. They seem to be booming with trade.
I think eventually real art will be in demand. The Ai will be so obvious to the buyer many will want something real
by a real person with a real story. There will be some kind of Renaissance and we will get paid a little more than the AI fakes.
Try not to let it get to you and Stand your ground.
Be a real artist and be proud.
P.S
my latest project arrived today, my ex girlfriends bow top gypsy wagon. It needs restoring and painting up nice. It's an old classic, a real beauty with a canvas top. One horse can pull it and it has a traditional wood burner.
It has some good memories so I will enjoy restoring and painting a traditional design on her.
I will also make a model of it of course

Wed, Jul 10, 2024Just to add,
Steve hated me showing him my work. He was jealous of that feeling when you finish an image and say to yourself. " I'm happy with what i have made".
For all the AI users and fakers out there can they say " I'm happy with what i have made".

Thu, Jul 11, 2024Sadly, there seem to be more and more of these people these days. Sure, there are good and decent folks out there still, but too many are the other kind.
