Over the years I've wondered at times what's behind the creation of people's usernames, whether it was on AOL for roleplaying or on the art sites I visit.
Some folks use a short version of their real name, but a lot of folks have names that are not a variation of their real name. What was the inspiration for them I wonder?
So I'm asking, what is or was the inspiration for your username? Inquiring minds would love to know! Just for fun, sh... and giggles!

Lisa: A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
Bart: Not if you called 'em stench blossoms.
Homer: Or crapweeds.
Marge: I'd sure hate to get a dozen crapweeds for Valentine's Day. I'd rather have candy.
Homer: Not if they were called scumdrops.'
As to my name as YingYangMoo, I have always liked that idea of a pure opposite that pure good or bad as there is in truth only shades of grey. So I am like a Holstein Frisian cow neither good or bad, neither black nor white and also I do produce a lot of C*%p

Interesting yes,
V8 Infinite:
V, the first letter of my first name.
The 8 turned upside down can't be typed on the keyboard (or I didn't find it) XD
Infinite, I'm not going to spread its meaning
My artist name was supposed to be something else but that one was chosen at the last moment.

Sat, Sep 07, 2024If you do something on the fly, you do it quickly, often while you are doing something else, without preparing and without thinking too much about how it should be done.

Sun, Sep 08, 2024It was not chosen on the fly or quickly without thinking, a legal problem

I like to play with letters and words, their meaning (or not) and typography. When I started with 3D (commercially), I wanted to create something not so common: slipped, messy clothes.
Pu: pulled / pushed
shee = shi: shifted (I didn't liked the look of the " i " (Pushiri ???), hence the exchange)
ri: ripped (there are only two projects of this, though, as I interpreted the ripping as ecstasy ... but it can also be used for shitty violent crap)
But I didn't like the look of " Pusheeri " - so I had to do some typographic fine-tuning ... and since I love hyphens as well as dots and brackets, the username was invented

For my name, it's more sentimental I think. My best friend was very blunt, yet kind, and encouraging when it came to my art. Sadly, he passed away 8 years ago. My nickname for him was Hyp, short for Hyperion because in our friend circle, we had several guys of the same name, so when two or more were in the room I called him Hyp. He liked it and it stuck. I also have a character in my story that I'm only now starting to work on, named Hyperion.

My old account, korpin sulat, is Finnish for "crow feathers." It's the moniker I stuck my silversmithing business under. The origin of that is that I have a vast collection of crow and magpie feathers, I'm always picking them up, and I can see them from hundreds of meters away, something about the color shift in them disturbs the light. I've wowed a lot of people for being able to see them from super far off.
Wanting to keep that separate, I rebranded to Protosynthetic. At first it was just a word that I thought of one day while trying to figure out a good name for a cyberpunk comic series, something that sounded technological and organic at the same time. Of course, then I hit google and found out that it is actually an existing word, referring to what cellular energy production was before photosynthesis existed (think mitochondria when they were independent cells rather than a symbiotic cell organ). I fell in love with it. And it's so little used that it made sense as a screen name strictly for my 3D art.

GM are my initials of my name and Artworks speak for itself.
My previous artist name was GMLAB because I experimented a lot with producing music through official record labels. These can still be found in my registered releases over the internet.

Great Question, I sometimes ponder the meaning behind some user names.
Awesome question to get the community involved, thanks Mel
There's a meditation technique where you mentally travel beyond the earth out to the far reaches of the Cosmic Universe.
And in that place that's where I ponder and Envision a great many things.
Wether that's searching for a solution, asking questions or Envisioning a possible outcome. It's like a blank piece of canvas where you can mentally paint or see what you need to.
Great for art as well, realy nice creative space.
Hence the name CosmicEnvisions

It's an interesting question!
For me, I've search a lot of name that will represent myself and what I love make. In the past I've made a list of different name. But it's this name that was retain my attention, because sometimes I've a lot of ideas but... we just have 24hours in a day!
I have a lot of things I want to make and I just write them in a paper to don't miss them and make them one by one with time! (And sometimes it's really take time!) Some days I'm so caught up in what I'm doing in Blender that I wish a day was longer ahah!
It's for that for me Floody Creativity was the best option I've fund and I just add Studio at the end. I think it's sound good!
And because Floody Creativity Studio it's a bit long, people can call me Floody CS!
And voila!

Mon, Sep 09, 2024Wow, sounds like your head is full of ideas! And a name to go along with it! Hopefully, you sleep at some point, lol.
Same here, some names really make me wonder why.
I've been through some names in my internet time, starting of with Luna over 30 years ago, just because I like the moon a lot.
Small changes over the time, never really satisfied, but with thousands of people having similar names, it wasn't easy.
Beautiful Misfits has no special meaning, except that I always liked to work with niche figures like Miki and other not that much used ones.
And it's just for the account, just to look around here.
My name I really use is Nena Lu.
Nena, a name I gave myself, when asked what's my name, when I just started to talk. And Lu are the first 2 letters of my second name (not used in real life at all).

Tue, Sep 10, 2024Interesting take on your name. And good to know I'm not the only one who's ever been curious about names!
That's an interesting question. I remember the day i created my account i was thinking what could be a cool username that would sound like something normal and nice at the same time. So, i was having a lunch and i got a free grape juice, it was so good that i purchased one to take home, then i though "how about Grape Juice 3D? Then that's when i started using it, lol. I know it sounds dumb but it that grape juice was good.. lol

Wed, Sep 11, 2024Exactly! Thanks for the question, i had fun explaining it!

The name, "Pinspotter", is literally that. I have been servicing pinspotters for over 25 years and am technically an A Mechanic. This 3D thing is "part-time" for me. And nobody else online has ever used that name when I am creating an account somewhere. So it makes sense that when making a regular account, I pick "Pinspotter". It's easy to type and to remember. Even in the gaming world, I'm pretty much known as Pinspotter or Pin for short. That name fits in well when it comes to pinball. I used to be a part of the virtual pinball community and competed on a pro level for a short time.
Some have asked why I don't use the name of my fictional studio. The answer is very complicated. To the tune of over 100 online accounts spanning decades, from AOL and Myspace to Ebay and pretty much anywhere else you can think of. And many places most people haven't thought of, like forums such as BowlTech.
For most business transactions I use my real name, because I don't just render 3D still images. I've sold sculptures, Perlers, jewelry, prints, art assets on commission, even customized plastic models. SexyCute Studios isn't an actual business name, so if I attend a convention in Artist Alley I use my real name like most artists.
Don't know what a pinspotter is? Wikipedia can tell you. I can't explain what I do, because everytime I try, people just assume I chase pins in a bowling alley. I do a lot more than that. Mechanics in such venues handle the entire building, from curb to curb. The machines are only our primary focus.

Wed, Sep 11, 2024I just learned something new today. I have a lot of off-and-on experience setting up music venues and concerts, and the most basic unit of stage lighting is called a "pin spot." I figured it had something to do with that.

Wed, Sep 11, 2024That's quite the history behind your name and your endeavors as well.
Needed a new username and wanted a short one. 'Werks' shortened from 'Earthwerks' from old Battletech novels has stuck in my brain forever. Add my initial for K Werks to play on "I work" and "quirk" (self imagined personality traits) but that was taken.. so change tense and used a cool 'x' (? another personality trait?)..and got kwerkx. Not a great backstory.. yet it feels personal to me.

Wed, Sep 11, 2024It would be a whole other perception if your first initial was T.

Rode and raced mountain and dirt bikes for about 20 years and played quite abit of rec and competitive softball in my 20's and my jersey # was always 00. Still be riding but my lower back doesn't want to cooperate these days.

Thu, Sep 12, 2024Thats awesome! I had quite a few friends growing up that were into it but my few attempts were always underwhelming. I'd want to go left and the horse would go right.
While I was browsing the forum to understand where my gallery had ended up, I noticed this post of yours, it made me think, I had a nickname for a long time, but I had to change it, the joker is my philosophy, always smile, both for better and for worse... almost forcedly.

Thanks for asking about this! For me- it comes from the good ol TR808 drum machine I used to use in making very grungy, noisy electronic industrial music! Imagine a lot of rack mount modules, synths, cables and a plethora and buttons to push, dials to turn and everything getting very hot the longer it's on.....

Wed, Sep 18, 2024One winter a few years ago, my son watched a fox dancing down the dirt alley between our house, some garages and 900 acres of forest. He said it was the cutest, coolest thing he'd seen in a while. So I get the love!

Wed, Sep 18, 2024With all that forest behind us, we've got all kinds of critters! You should see the size of some of the Redtail hawks that live here! We even have a pair of bald eagles nesting on the other side of this mountain, down by the river. We have owls, wild turkeys, multiple different kinds of hawks, possums, raccoons, coyotes, the occasional bear wandering through, and more than I can list, lol.
