Just some light hearted fun. Put your tunes here if you want to share.
I have a very diverse musical taste after working many years in the music / live event and music video business. Pretty much the only band I've not worked for is The Prodigy. I would have loved to do that gig while Keith was around.
Here's my choice for today. Gus Till legendary producer engineer and generally nice bloke.
https://gustill.bandcamp.com/ https://gustill.bandcamp.com/album/bus-past-present-future-tense
If your not into the electronic music scene I offer something else you may like. I discovered him while doing lighting down under. I had no idea how good he was until they started playing. Basically Australian dub very chilled and very folk in a good way. How many instruments can one man play. Xavier is a real nice guy and it was a pleasure working for him while on my holiday in 2007
https://xavierrudd.com/ https://www.youtube.com/@XavierRudd/videos
Finally a bit of Grace Jones dub style (If I remember correctly Gus Till produced an album or more with her in 2014ish.

Wed, Oct 16, 2024I'd never heard of him and my boss asked if I wanted to do some extra work and help him set up the lights. I knew nothing and expected some Ozzy folk. We drove 2 hours out to the bush to a tiny little bowl stage.
Stood on the side of the tiny stage and Xavier opened with Lioness. My boss just looked at me with that look. He knew I'd like it. We did about 3 of his bush shows that summer. Great memories.

Slightly off topic but I know some people are interested.
Art is varied, Maybe I will dig out some of my tunes.
Here's a rare gem, Gringo Ska (The UK band going strong for 30 years).
Just a short clip, I used to build this stage and work for Glade / Glastonbury. The drummer (Gringo is my climbing buddy and boss for the build).
We built on average 14 events a year.
2014 was my last Glastonbury I retired gracefully after Pranking the BBC and Metallica doing the live TV link. They still haven't noticed I wrote metal licker .
Performance art by me in 2014. yes it's a wig lol
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p021tyrr
Back story for this is we were allowed our own venue as a theater performance. We were a fake rock bar to celebrate metal lickers appearance at Glastonbury.
I played the inhouse tattoo artist and drew silly tattoos on people in sharpie pen for the event as well as acting as a drunk guitarist in the rubbish band. It was one hell of a laugh.

No doubt I must come from another planet...
To work I like the calm and silence that I find more conducive to concentration. Maybe also due to my professional past, I worked in a noisy universe, there were 8 of us in the same room and often one of us was on the phone and sometimes there were 3 phone conversations simultaneously in addition to the chatter between colleagues...
Today I sometimes put on background music when I drive, almost never when I do 3D

Sat, Oct 19, 2024No. I haven't listened to hardly anything new since about 1993. It's very very rare for me to find something new I like, and even more
rare for it to be something that gives me the WOW I look for.
Grunge ruined it for me. I couldn't stand grunge. Not a big fan of rap unless it's that material from the 80s. Once rap went over to
the themes of pimping, selling drugs, and killing people, I lost interest in it.
Around 1992 - 1993 everything turned nasty and ugly, and I opted out.
I have every Led Zeppelin song ever recorded on my ipod.

Sat, Oct 19, 2024I fortunately found alternatives and the 90s for myself were amazing. None of that mainstream rubbish. Fringe and diverse.
I grew up with Zeppelin and still appreciate it when in the mood. Ozrics formed in the early 80s My uncle got me into them when I was a kid.
He is a big Zeppelin fan . Give Ozrics a listen, you may like it.
later spin offs into electronic that I followed having parties in the woods rather than the clubs. Then Some of Ozrics formed Eat Static .

@guy91600:
I'm right there with you. I don't listen to music while I'm modeling/sculpting either - it would distract me. But while I'm building scenes, sometimes sounds or songs come to mind, which I then like to serve as a music suggestion for the picture.

I have something very special for you all. I've been carrying around the idea for a promo/teaser image where I'll present the music for a while ... now I just have to start working on the project so that I can finally render it
This is one of the creepiest end credits scores I've ever heard. I think even if you don't know the movie, the scary comes across very well. So maybe it's good for your next Halloween inspiration / pictures
Enjoy ... or not

There is an interesting variant of the Mbira what I like is that there is only the instrument, no voice and to discover the sound of the instrument it is ideal

Hi Bonj,
I just wanted to thank you for this wonderful thread. It's great to hear what kind of music some 3D artists listen to while working. And with some of them - like Hyp-St or GMArtworks - I find the featured music in the artwork. Great!
I want to post a feel-good song here. It's more than familiar from the charts - but I personally can't get enough of it at the moment.
Have a nice, joyfull and creative Sunday everyone

They always meet their fans after the concert and chat to you sign anything you want , they dont just wisk you away like some bands.
They have such energy on stage, they are just awesome.

Tue, Jan 28I used to subscribe to Future Music back in the late 90s and early 2000s, haha. And track 7 totally sounds like something I used to drive to - intense electronica was like a triple jolt of espresso when having to do my morning commute across four or five lanes of freeway. The first track has a mellow jungle vibe.
Most of the EDM I get to hear nowadays comes from my daughter's collection or creations, she started showing a bit of aptitude when she was 13 (somehow found some videos about Amiga sequencers and I mentioned knowing someone who used to use them, and it snowballed from there) so I sprung for FL Studio and the following year the full suit of plug-ins, plus everything she's added to it. She produces nothing slower than 180bpm. lol

Tue, Jan 28How did I not notice this until today? I love the percussion, that rolling style on the conga is hard to learn to do right if you didn't grow up immersed in it, I have fond memories of tearing the joints in my hands and shoulders up attempting it back in the day. Considering the lyrics, that they're from Chile isn't surprising. The storytelling style of the Quechua in the area is chock full of inanimate objects brought to life in the strangest ways. (When I was in uni I went to New Mexico for a summer class in oral storytelling and the main presenter was from Argentina right next door). There's this show on Netflix right now called One Hundred Years of Solitude, and that same flavor shines through in the first few episodes.
I don't know why, but I can't listen to music and concentrate on whatever else I'm doing at the same time. It actually really annoys me to be honest - lol
Even if it's music I like. to listen to, I can only enjoy it when I'm specifically wanting to listen to it and not doing anything else.
I'll listen to anything that takes my fancy really, but I suppose the good old 80s were my favourite decade for music.
I switch stuff around quite a lot, but here's some that have that glorious 80s energy, punch and vibe about them!

Written and produced by the dudes from ABBA no less (both seen in the video), it's musically stunning by default and is by far the best anthem I've ever heard. There's no prize for guessing why they chose Tommy Körberg to perform the vocals, and the lyrics themselves are very clever if you follow their true meaning. And that look on Benny's face at the end, LMFAO, talk about satisfaction brought about by achievement!
There's clearly a lot of Tim Rice's input on this track too (also seen in the video knelt down at the desk).
"Let man's petty nations tear themselves apart
My land's only borders lie around my heart"
Yes indeed.

Fri, Jan 24Rabbit holes. I just wanted to know who did some of the tracks for the soundtrack for The Boondocks, and Robert Glasper's name popped up for one of the songs. Hit Google, found one where he mashed up Everything In Its Right Place by Radiohead with Maiden Voyage by Herbie Hancock and was smitten. I've followed his repertoire ever since.
Few months later, after a few related suggestions from Apple Music here and there, I wind up finding DJ Raphael on YouTube, and his chilled hip hop and neo soul mixes have gotten me through all kinds of render and writing time and introduced me to a ton of new (to me) stuff. Including at least two of those tracks up there. He only makes a new one once or twice a year, and I have notifications set up. He puts out a new mix, everything else is canceled for the hour or so it takes to listen to it.

And now for something completely different ...

BTW - WHERE IS BONJ?????
I haven't heard, seen or read anything from him for far too long. Does anyone have some info?

It's rare I come across a song that I know right away is going be among my favourites, but this in definitely one of them!
Been playing it on loop. I love the vibe of it but I can't find out much about the artist or the song, other than it's a soundtrack to some stylish 80s erotic movie. It's as if the artist is not well known but I find that very hard to believe to be honest. I really hope he has an album out there somewhere with this sort of stuff on it. I'm not kidding, I'll be majorly saddened if it turns out there isn't!
It's a shame about the sound quality but I can't find a better one, and I'm not entirely sure which genre of music this would fall under either.

Cheers PR. I saw that one as well but the sound quality is even worse in that one. It sounds really mid-range heavy on my headphones, so I was looking for a better recording.
I'm pleased to say I've found the dude who sung it. If you scroll down the page you'll come to a list of stuff he does and it states where he's vocalist and/or composer etc. Top Model is mentioned so it's definitely him although he's singer on this one, not composer. Piero Montanari is the composer so it sounds as if it could be an American/Italian collaboration of sorts.
Whether there exists a full album where they collaborate on this sort of stuff remians to be seen, but I do have a genious idea to get a quality copy of it. Since the film was made in 1988 there will surely exist a Hi-Fi Stereo VHS release of it, and I do have a very nice VHS deck to record from, so problem solved (at least as far as getting a quality recording).
Now that I've tracked down the vocalist I'll have to find out about the composer and see if I can find some collaborative clues. I'm really in love with that track. There's just something so crazy laid-back, cool and sophisticated about it, the way it's sung and the way it's composed, so I really hope there's more of it out there.from them.
As for the movie itself, lol, never take notice of movie reviews. I know I never do.. Chances are if you're kinky (and I am) then it's probably a very good piece of 80s erotica. I suppose I'll find out when I pick-up the VHS. And to be fair, the woman does look very tasty, especially in the version I posted where she comes out of the changing room wearing that black dress!
Anyway, this is definitely the vocalist since Top Model is mentioned:

Seems there's nothing else. On discogs there's some more stuff from Jacob Wheeler but they're from completely different projects and not in collaboration with the same composer. And even for the composer, there's only one album listed and that's a Country and Folk album.
It's often like that though. I'll come across a specific track or style of track and end-up being shocked to find that it's either unknown or has no following. There was so much quality music being released in the 80s though, and I suppose it was a lot harder to get noticed back then. I would love for there to have been a whole album in this style by these two - I reckon it would have been really good!

Forget that, there's a bunch of albums from Piero Montanari.
I had miss-spelt the name when using Discogs!
I see another album in the erotica series athough strangely not the one I wanted. In other words it's a soundtrack (but as far as I can tell) a soundtrack was never actually made available.for it.
Still,. at least there's a chance of more in this style so I'll be checking those other albums out:

Oh yes, definitely a fine piece of work!
But I must admit I (literally) laughed out loud when you mentioned it being played over and over at the disco. Nothing unusual about it I suppose, I mean it's very catchy but I cannot even imagine people swinging away to an oddly composed track like that in a disco.
My god, I'd have probably paid good money to have seen that, but I was only a kid at the time - lol

Never heard of him before but he has a good voice. I clicked on another of his tracks, one called "Chains" and have to say that he reminds me a lot of "Ville Valo" and the track "Summer Wine".
Unfortunately, the videos are either poor quaity, covered in distracting subtitles, or hidden behind a login. This is the only video version I could find that is decent, although I should point out there's some mild artistic nudity in this one in case anyone would prefer to avoid it.
The audio is out of sync for the first 30 seconds but it fixes itself after that, and anyway I think you might like it:

Just starting the house classics , 1997 was a great year for music.
In 1999 I made a CD Rom to celebrate the eclipse music festivals in the south of England. It was a free disc ( paid for by my sponsors) and mounted on the cover of DJ Magazine.
During production a friend interviewed Karl Hyde from Underworld and it was intercut with the Album Beaucoup Fish. Broadcast live from the festivals on cable radio eclipse 106fm. We were granted rights to use the interview and include a small portion on our CD Rom. He gave me a copy of his master disc.
The master disc is 30 years old. To my knowledge only one still exists. It was flaking, falling apart. The foil had detreated so much the disc was ruined.
I played it and captured it all, not entirely complete but close enough. The whole album intercut with Karl being rather funny and relaxed in one of the best interviews ever. Ian had cut the interview into the music with lots of experimental glitchyness. Preserved forever now in digital format. Maybe I can try get it released or at least gift it back to my friend or Underworld. I still need to re stich it all back together as I had to capture it in small chunks.
Here is the classic itself but unfortunately without the interview due to copyright .

The band "Johnny Hates Jazz" doesn't actually hate Jazz, it's just one of those weird names with a true story behind it :

I was just watching some James Bond opening title sequences and enjoying the fantastic music that always accompanied them back in the 80s.
The James Bond title sequences back then were on par with Giallo in terms of style, beauty and music. But one thing that particulaly struck me about this one is the camera featured in the video. I couldn't help but think to myself that since Olympus are now officially the bad-boys of Japan due to pulling-off the biggest and most complex, decades-long fraud in Japanese history, one going all the way back to the 80s (see attached documentary), then this must surely mean that the Olympus OM-4 Ti (which was Olympus' finest film camera) must officially be the most badass of all film cameras ever made. And when you consider that 007 movies ALWAYS involve some form of SERIOUS bad-assery, you kinda have to wonder whether it's just coincidence they used that camera, or whether they knew all along that OIympus were a corporation up to some seriously naughty business:

Ah yes, The Professionals! I intended to buy the entire thing on Blu-ray back when they finally released it all in HD some years back. There's so many episodes though, and the cost was insane (certainly at the time). Looking forward to eventually seeing it all again though, once I'm in a position to relax and enjoy it. Not sure of the name of the episode, but I clearly remember the last time I saw it was with a blonde woman climbing a huge cooling tower or something.
I often have to take-on a Bodie and Doyle type character due to where I live, but I think they'd be impressed with my handling of it!
Anyway, that For Capri, looks very cool in silver, but I sometimes wonder the games they'd have gotten up to if they'd had Bond's Aston Martin with all those "Useful Extras" - lol

Using internet search engines, I cannot find a shred of evidence this song ever existed. Perhaps the band, Propaganda, lost their rights to it and had to "cease and desist" all publication and association with it.
Well, the song definitely exists. Propaganda is a synth pop band from Germany with many nice recordings under their belt. And I got their song, Ignorance, off SoulSeek in 2005.

Sat, Feb 15I got their "A Secret Wish" analog disc back around 1986. Obviously remains a fave with me.

You may like goldfrapp, She has sung for many bands including Orbital

Sat, Feb 22Ya I like a Goldfrapp tune on occasion. I mean I like it when her "White Horse" hit comes on. Orbital I know very little about except for one of their tunes I have which I think is called "Philosophy", which I don't remember having any real vocals except looped samples. But now I have become tangentally interested to discover whether there is any connection between Orbital and William Orbit/Torch Song.

If only people knew the sort of effort that went into doing that stuff in analogue as they did, they would see them in a whole new way and realise just how beautiful they are. Analogue Projection and Re-Projection, Analogue Tracking, Analogue Composition and Layering, Analogue Reversal Film and of course the beauty of using real Analogue Film itself is what makes them what they are - masterpieces!
That along with masses of skill, an eye for stylistic production and some clever cinematographic trickery of course!

Sat, Feb 15Or, Ballet Gone Good. Must be good to also feature a gaffer and photographer.
Two slightly later ones this time, both of these being from the analogue and digital hybrid era where they would allow digital elements by converting them to analogue first by recording them to real film, then allowing it to be layered with the main analogue film elements to create the final result:

What I said above, I think that applies to "Golden Eye" but probably not "Tomorrow Never Dies".
Tomorrow Never Dies looks mostly digital to me. Still cool, but I think it was the turning point at which things started to go downhill rapidly after that with the advent of digital. Doing stuff in analogue forces you to take your time and consider things more, and I think the advent of digital totally destroyed the artistry involved.
In fact the last 007 movie I ever saw Casino Royal. The movie was ok, but what an absolute junk-fest of an opening sequence that was. Even the music was a festering pile of crap and to this day, I still wonder how the fuck it (or the music that accompanied it) ever got on a Bond movie in the first place - really pissed me off that did!
I'm not kidding, the opening title sequence (and music) for "Casino Royal" is so bad that I won't even post it!

Wed, Feb 19Yes Tomorrow Never Dies was the first digital sequence. It was the begging of the dv revolution although a little was about before. In the UK digital wasn't really cost effective until around 1996.
I was at college then, I invested in a dvmaster pro pc edit machine. not the standard dvmaster 95 that did not work. Mine was a duel boot beast with win 95 and NT.
Duel processor Pentium 2. lol Lots of scsi hard drives. Rubbish by today's standards but at the time over 8k to buy and only available as a custom build. The college pc's did not work so I was taking mine in to teach the course I was also on. There was only two in the country then, the other running the screens in Trafalgar square.
Digital animation back then required a huge budget and masses of hard drive space for the uncompressed video format. I was right on the cross over , actually pioneering the new formats and I used mpeg1 as a video format way before anyone. Actually the first to be able to run quality full screen video on pc with the Eclipse 99 cd rom. No one had done it till then.
A couple of the universities had some good kit but they all taught Avid for video editing. Avid is great but the pc revolution was building up momentum. After college I set up a digital video company and made music video's and cd rom. If I could find my work easy I would drop links , I may have to get my old master tapes transferred to cd but with hundreds of hours it would cost a lot. That's if the mini dv tapes have lasted nearly 30 years.
I was lucky to learn film editing and photography as well as stop frame animation as well as the new digital generation. I digress lol .. I love digital but analogue has a charm digital still can't match.

Blimey, sounds like you had a lot of fun back then. Sure, digital back then was not as powerful as todays hardware but at least you got to play with the cutting edge at the time. These days the cutting edge is DaVinci Resolve Studio, which can be had without even breaking half a grand to acquire it, or a grand if you include hardware.
At the time I was getting into CG it was really Lightwave running on the Amiga (and the Amiga Video Toaster) that I was drooling over. Ah the good old days eh!
And I totally agree, can't beat the analogue produced stuff, especially for charm and just plain better vibe. I remember watching an interview with Quentin Tarantino. You tell he's an analogue lover. He once said that they'll never stop making real film, but if it ever happened then that would be the day he would stop making films - it's that important.
Thankfully he was right and the production of real film (and movies shot on it) is on the increase again!

Sat, Feb 22I was a computer virgin when I got that pc. Invested all i had at the time and 4 months later produced a cd rom
Admittedly I broke the thing and had to take it back to be fixed but that was included in the price. Ken at Flamingo digital systems is long retired but he taught me a lot. Duno what I did but it said The kernal was corrupt so I stupidly tried to copy the kernel from cd and drop it in the windows directory manually XD I was so green. lol
Amiga I used for some audio, making samples and the save to the Amiga, resample back to the pc for another layer of fx, then back to the amiga. rinse and repeat until getting a sound we liked.
It's interesting to see the next generation of film stock coming out today. I'm keeping my eye on it, hopefully it will be cost effective.

HEY MATTHEW
I was sitting with Matthew
We were watching TV, I said
Hey Matthew, what do you see?
Do you see the guns? Do you see the bombs?
See those people throwing all of those stones?
Do you see the cars going up in flames?
See their faces, do you know their names?
Hey Matthew, when you're watching TV
Hey, hey Matthew, what do you see?
Do you see the tension in a rich man's house?
Do you see the cat? Do you see the mouse?
Do you see the beauty or the big bad beast?
Do you see the famine? Do you see the feast?
In this world of villains do you see the crime?
Is a superhero waiting at the edge of time?
Hey Matthew, when you're watching TV
I said, hey, hey Matthew, what do you see?
I see Dallas, Dynasty, Terrahawks
He-Man, Tom and Jerry, Dukes of Hazzard
Airwolf, Blue Thunder, Rambo, Road Runner
Daffy Duck, The A-Team, The A-Team, I see the A-Team
I was sitting with Matthew
We were watching TV, I said
Hey Matthew what'll you be?
Will you walk like a lion in the danger zone?
Will you pass unnoticed in the great unknown?
When you see the press out on a witch hunt
When you see a political publicity stunt
Will you fight for the right? Will you be a man?
Will you step aside? Will you give a damn?
Will you ride that tide with the starry eyed?
Will you give and take?
Will you laugh 'til you ache?
Will you learn to live?
Will you take? Will you give?
As the bridges burn, will you live and learn?
Will you be numbered with the brave and true?
Well, good luck kid, here's lookin' at you
In the future, Matthew, so bright and free
Hey Matthew, what'll you be?
Hey, hey Matthew, what'll you be?
I want to be a soldier, street fighter, be a policeman
A captain of a boat, big boat
I want to be a magic man, a cowboy
A train driver, high jump champion
A fireman, a pilot, I want to be your friend
It's all a game, I hope
Hey Matthew
Hey, hey Matthew
I hope
I hope
I hope

Sat, Feb 22Yep that's a strange and dark video but better than the rubbish we get today

In my opinion this is the best song ever performed, but then I love massive attack.
Liz is 57 in this video and you can see is anxious. Just over half way she seems to relax and realize she has it all under control. A smile appears and She really enjoys the moment.

I do like Massive Attack, but to be honest I've never been a fan of live performances in general. I always expect it to sound (and be performed) like the record, and it hardly ever does.

Thu, Feb 27Sonically we're in control
We're the diamond in your soul
Images come thick and fast
From the future, from the past
The film starts and the film ends
Nothing is said in between
Just sudden moments from someone else's story
Will it ever be the same again?
Hours filled with conversation, no attention paid
Too distracting convention, no need for friends
Will it ever be the same again?
Will it ever be the same again?
You're original, with your own path
You're original, got your own way (x2)
Will it ever be the same again? (x2)
I need to hear that again
Because a dream starts, and a dream must end
My mother told me, don't ever change
You're original, in your own way
My mother told me, don't ever change
You're original, got your own path
You're original (x2)

I wanted to include some interesting information behind the equipment used to shoot this video, because it was shot with some super-rare camera specialised in high frame rates for creating genuine, non-intepolated slow motion.
Unfotunately, I can't remember the name of it now or even find any info on it.
As with my previous two posts, the music is Schiller, so expect a weird and arty chilled vibe (and I love those Cellos):
